Anyone use over powder wads with smokeless powder? ( for large straight walled cases )
Either with card, vegetable fiber, felt, lubed or unlubed.
With the rediculous price of gas checks I was wondering if this was a viable option.
My question is about how to keep the wad up against the base of the bullet? I would think that is important in avoiding a bulged/ringed barrel or chamber.
thanks in advance,
Bill

They work most excellently with black powder, but the case is clear full so it can't get sideways, or get powder in front of it, and is going to always get blown out of the barrel.

I've never tried it with smokeless loads, for just the reason you mentioned. A wad stuck in the bore is not something I want in one of my guns.

If I was going to use anything it would be a tuft of Dacron pillow stuffing. But that would be to keep a small powder charge back by the primer, not as a gas check.
