I have a rimfire suppressor that I am testing for lead residue build up over time. I fire 500 rounds per session and then I X-ray it and weigh it. So far it has reached 33k rounds without being cleaned and it is going strong.
Last night I did some basic timings to find out what my overall rate of fire is when testing the suppressor. You may find it interesting, given the arbitrary limitations I set:
1) Distance was 25m (27 yards indoor range)
2) Rifle is a 10/22 clone. Volquartsen barrel, Magpul X22 stock, Burris Fast Fire 3 dot.
3) Available magazines: 10 x Ruger BX25
4) Ammo: RWS Target Rifle
Timer was started with an empty gun and 10 empty magazines, cartridges were in 5 boxes of 50 and I loaded the magazines by hand at a steady comfortable pace.
The objective was to fire all 250 rounds into one target. I shot standing but leaned up against the left hand post of the shooting lane. Kind of like what you might do if you fired from a doorway.
I will add that I experienced 4 stoppages. Two rounds failed to fire, one round failed to chamber properly because the bolt had trapped the empty case from the previous round against the barrel and I had another failure where the magazine follower failed to rise and there were rounds in the magazine.
In all those cases I had to remove the magazine and clear the stoppage and continue. Whatever rounds were ejected from the chamber or magazine were kept on the bench and reloaded into a magazine and fired again. You can regard that as an 11th magazine.
How long do you think it took to:
1) Load the 10 magazines initially
2) Fire all the rounds, including clearing stoppages and loading and firing those cleared rounds from another magazine
To give you an idea of the rate of fire, this is the target. I wasn't firing wildly but I was going as fast as I can, where the objective is to keep the rounds in a head-sized target. The center black is 3.5" diameter, the outer ring is just under 8" diameter
