Hello All,
Does anyone have a recommendation for a Kydex OWB holster that has a minimalist print? Otherwise, an IWB holster that could be worn as an OWB. This will be for a subcompact semi auto (Kahr S9).

Thanks,
Ralph

I suspect you are in for quite the search, because guns like your S9 were meant to be carried IWB.

You might consider making one of your own design.

This gun? https://www.kahr.com/firearm-review-kahr-s9/

I'm not that familiar with the minutia of the Kahr line-up, but Dale Fricke shows the Gideon Elite for the Kahr 9 https://dalefrickeholsters.com/product/gideon-elite-holster/ . It is a straight drop holster, but unlike a Comp-Tac International or Blade-Tech Classic, the Gideon Elite is designed as a concealment holsters, and is pretty good at it.

RM Holsters shows the MK9 and PM9 https://www.shop.rmholsters.com/Extreme-Cant-Paddle-Holster-ECP20.htm

PJ Holsters shows some Kahr models https://pjholster.com/products/owb

Panther Concealment shows the PM9 https://www.pantherconcealment.com/owb-holsters.html

I've had success with Crossbreed holsters. It looks like they have a whole lineup of holsters that will fit the S9. But they are all hybrid. If you can deal with that, I suggest giving one of those a try.

If you're a fat person, you have lots of options. If you're thin, it's quite a bit tougher. In either case, I've found that "pancake" style leather holsters generally conceal better than other types of OWB holsters. No OWB holster is going to conceal as well as a good IWB that is picked for your body type and carry method and fitted correctly.

You get both from each the fat and the thin. I think each note the particular problems they have, and wish they may be the other so that problem may go away, but you'll probably find you gain a different problem.

The fat guys do have a whole bunch more belt real estate to place a gun, and a 1911 looks a whole lot smaller on a 300 pounder than it does on a 135 pounder.

Per bearcreak's comment about pancake holsters, in the generic they probably do conceal the best of the OWB holsters, but often slim folks can't wear a pancake effectively since the holster takes up so much belt real estate.

From Del Fatti's website regarding pancake holsters http://www.delfatti.com/2011 LP.html

Some people with very narrow waists (usually under 32 inches or so) might find that the wings bind the weapon because they are pulled in to the waist so abruptly. Those people might be better served by an SLP design.

Well, I've never been a thin person so I can't say for sure. But I am very much under the belief that being fat makes it much harder to conceal. My sides push the gun outward.
My observation has been that obese folks can conceal larger guns more easily because the they're wider front to back and the gun kind of melts into them and the handle doesn't stick out as much. I used to teach CCW classes and saw all shapes of people using all manner of holsters. I've never been fat, so I'm just basing this on what I've observed, not experienced myself. In this case though, what others observe is, to a degree, more important than what a person feels.

I'm a fairly thin person at 5' 9" and 180lbs. Although I'd like to be around 175lbs, ha.

Definitely makes it more challenging, IMO. Should still be doable with a little pistol like that Kahr though. Why not go IWB? Or, better yet, if you're experienced enough for it, appendix?

I am 5’9” at 170 lbs with a 33” waist. In a thread above I mentioned the DeSantis Slim-Tuk holster. It’s my preferred IWB holster. For OWB a I rely on. DeSantis Mini Scabbard leather holster. It has adjustable retention and is factory form fitted to the pistol. Very concealable with my Ruger Security 9 Compact F0BCFCE9-4BFB-4E71-9619-AB23D3707401.jpeg 385BB2B3-4C68-4B29-9262-125AF1B93C7F.jpeg

Please dont forget, with OWB the cover garment can make a huge difference in how the gun prints. Suggest you include that in your calculation.

If you do not have youyr heart set on Kydex, I have gradually moved everything I own to leather, Mitch Rosen's Express Line is relatively quick to ship, depending where you find it, and much more reasonable than his custom line. Quality is amazing and my personal opinion is that leather is more gentle on the gun's finish. Just my opinion based on experience

Another recommendation for a leather OWB...the Askins Avenger...Bianchi, Galco, and El Paso make holsters to this general style. The rear most belt loop pulls the grip into the shooter's body, hiding the most pertinent bulge, the butt plate area. Here's the back of one that I made up...followed by one of the front side of my son's Bianchi (I think) Rod

I carry a Sig P365 daily in a Don Hume H710 OWB leather holster. It was only about $40. I had intended to use it temporarily while waiting for a custom made holster after using it I didn't see any point in ordering one.
I don't know if they make one for the Kahr.

Never understood the logic of carrying a gun for self defense while, at the same time, being self destructive.
