OWB Concealed Carry Holster Suggestions

Yeah, one of the "problems" with holsters is they are known by different names to different people. To me those are all modified pancakes, which get their name from two pieces stacked on top of each other (like a stack of pancakes) and stiched together.

A traditional slide holster has one loop and because of that is easy to "slide" around on your belt. As soon as you add a second loop, by design, friction & binding makes the holster hard to slide.

Here is a traditional Yaqui Slide:

Agreed.

For instance, if you would have simply said "Yaqui" and not even mentioned slide, I would have instantly known what you were talking about.

Simply calling it a Yaqui would not describe all slides, that's like calling all Cadillac's Fleetwoods. A Yaqui is one type of slide.

Again, this is what I call them because they slide easily and can be easily repositioned for walking, riding, sitting etc.. I try to descibe my holsters as accurately as possible and since a holster with two belt loops is not easy to slide, I don't consider them slides, no offense intended to anyone who does.

Attached are a couple of mine, as well as a few links to others below.

Look up on the internet for Gould & Goodrich. Their yaqui slide (mod B801) has a tension screw and holds the grip close to the body. I have been using mine on a daily basis for the last 3 years. I carry a Kimber UCC II in it.

True, I generally think of something like these when someone says "belt slide holster"

I think it's whatever someone was exposed to early on in their holster experience.

To further complicate things check out the JIT Slide by Don Hume, it's more of a modified Askins style. (and one of the best 'minimalist' types of holster out there IMO)

I gotta say Bravo Concealment... Awesome kit.

Just ordered myself some more for my M&P9 and double magazine holster, and an AR Pmag holster.

on a side note. IWB dont work well when one tries to stuff a gun and holster in some panst which are probably too tight for the wearer to begin with.

if your waist is a 38, your pants must be a 40 in order to properly carry an IWB rig. you simply can not stuff ten gallons of crap into a five gallon bucket.

I know you are saying you are done with IWB, but maybe give a Remora IWB a try...if you don't like it send it back, but many folks rave about them. I'm going to give one a try next paycheck. Check out the YouTube reviews.

I like the Yaqui-style ones (mine's a homemade) and Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake (but that's for revolvers.)

Good luck on your holster search...everyone is so unique, so it's hard for one to recommend to another!

Just today I ordered a Desantis Thumb Release Scabbard for my wife's CCW, her Glock 19. She didn't like IWB either.

I design and make my own pancake style of holsters, but really the most comfortable OWB (I took hate IWB. Just can't do it) I own is a 20 dollar kit holster I bought from Tandy leather. Actually, since I shoot some handguns better left handed and some better right, I have a couple of these.

I dabble in leather work and embellish mine a bit, but really all one would have to do is stitch the kit together, get it nice and wet, make sure your gun is wrapped in food wrap very well, insert the gun and spend 45 minutes watching TV while you press and mold and shape the holster to your pistol (unloaded of course) before letting it dry over the heat/ac vent in your house overnight. I go the extra step of carefully baking mine to set the leather up nearly as hard as Kydex. I primarily carry a Glock, so I don't want any chance of a soft holster throat working its way into my trigger guard.

Kinda fun to do, and because my carry piece has a sub 4" barrel, pretty much any shirt I wear hides the pistol well. On top of that, it holds the gun high and tight. I simply love it.
