Hey i'm new to the forum and new to handguns. I'm turning 21 next month and a local gunshop had a walther p-88 for sale for 400 dollars. I had 165 in store credit and put a reserve on it. I can't find any real info on it. Is it reliable, a good shooter and is the price right. the condition seems excellent. I was considering this and a cz-85. Any info would be greatly appreciated thank you

That is an unreal price on a P88 - makes me think that they don't know what they have. The P88 is an outstanding handgun and usually sells for much more. I have both the full size and compact models and love shooting both. You should have rather large hands to comfortably shoot the full sized P88 - the grip is rather fat. The CZ is also a fine handgun but at that price the Walther is the correct choice. There is much P88 info here - http://www.waltherforums.com/vb/

thank you

That was the fastest reply I have ever had. The news is also exciting and i can't wait till next month when i pick it up. I'll post picks and a range report. THANK You

The only down side to the P-88 is: Magazines are horrendously expensive.

When the P88 was still being sold, new magazines wholesaled for about $80.00....EACH.
That's one reason it wasn't a big success.

Yeah Murphy's in Tucson has great deals. I see their is one gentleman from phoenix. They got lots of hand guns and had lots of candr rifles for good prices, though i have picked some off. So i should get it? cool, are the after market mags on gunbroker anygood? Thanks for the info this forum rules.

Dude you STOLE it! I have a buddy with a little walther addiction (~ 2 dozen) he had 2 P88's and 1 P88 compact. The last one he bought was ~$1400 but it was LNIB.

p-88

I just picked up a 1990 NIB P-88. $400 bucks is a steal of the century. I would call Earl @ Walther USA and have hime verify the serial numbers and markings. He is local to me and I just left his store today and he knows everything Walther.

If it is in fact a P-88 for that price, great buy.

Add another grand to the price and you won't be indicted for grand theft.

Congrats on an epic buy. If I were you I'd get that gun paid for as quickly as possible before they figure out what they have.

Great gun at an unbelievable price.

I saw one for sale few months ago at a gun show table for $900.

Make sure it is no damaged/abused/broken.

If it's in good shape, evidently they have no idea of what they are selling...get it FAST before they change their mind.

The closest thing to a new P-88 today is one of the Bersa Thunder full size...it is somehow a clone of the P-88 with few differences.

It's the best 9 mm (or .40 S&W) for the money out there..usually it retails around $350.

Of course it's not a P-88 in terms of finishing, but it's a great pistol, extremely strong and reliable, carries a lifetime warranty, great Customer Service and it's +P rated.

It shares one of the few P-88 shortcomings....expensive magazines ($54) and third party ones won't work well.
But it's one of the few pistol magazines with stainless steel followers, so the extra money spent at least goes in quality and it's not wasted.
