I have carried many guns, but have stayed away from anything without a traditional safety. I know, I know, if your finger is off the trigger, it cant fire...it is just a mental thing for me I guess. That being said, I currently carry and HK USP full size V2 and really want a sub compact for when the deep concealment is a must. The p2000sk seems much smaller than the USP compact and I really cant justify picking the USPc over the p2000sk, just for an external safety. What I havent seen or read about is if the ps2000sk has any internal or external safeties, can anyone help me out? I really want to stick with HK, so suggestions for other brands isnt requested.

not an option. I can only afford one until 2008 and this is for carry not sport, so I would rather make the best option first rather than second!

I'd probably get the compact, the SK is a bit too small for my hand; I don't know about yours though.
In the mean time, you should get rid of your 1911, you said it yourself, it's finnicky. There's nothing more assuring than carrying a gun that doesn't work all the time, you can get your ass killed. Which is it, carrying jamomatic or busy worrying about the non-safety pistol?

but hot damn, 2008 is a long time!

I dont carry the 1911, just the USP full size...but at times that can be a bit hard to conceal, although I manage to pull it off rather well most of the time. I like the USPc, but in reality...its just not that much smaller than the USP, and I need something for specifically the times that deeper concealment is needed. The SK is the right size, I just hate not having that safety. I dunno, maybe I should just find better ways to conceal the USP full size even in hot weather and under certain dress conditions and say screw it.

I bought an SK simply becasue it fits my hand like no other pistol. It just feels perfect. I didn't want a DAO so i went with one with a decocker. Couldn't be happier.

Regarding the decocker, does that mean that you can technically carry the p2000sk cocked and unlocked (no safety)???

well, technically yes I guess you could. Not something I'd do but I just prefer to have a decocker as a safe way to drop the hammer on a loaded chamber should the need arise. This sin't my carry piece. I simpl bought it for a fun range gun.

The purpose of the decocker in this case is to lower the hammer; take the gun out of single action mode. When the hammer is back there is no safety in place such as the safety of the USP. So it's cocked but not locked in single action mode.

For what it's worth, I have a USP compact and a P2000sk. They are close in size. The P2000sk is too short in the grip for my hand. The curved baseplate of the magazine makes for a cramped grip, at least for my hand. I tried flat baseplates. This makes the grip closer in length to a Glock 26 (though just a bit longer). This allows the pinky to wrap underneath the grip. Having shot a Glock 26 for so many years this is not a problem for me, but I know many shooters hate the pinky under the grip.

How much more concealeability does the p2000sk offer you than your usp compact? It seems so much smaller when I look at the measurements.

I love my SK (V3 with the decocker). I carry decocked with one in the chamber. The initial pull is long and harder than the follow-up single action, that's your safety. In addition it has a firing pin block so that it can't fire if the hammer is whacked or accidentally falls due to part breakage. The first few milimeters of trigger pull disengage the firing pin block.
