P225 or P226?

I'd trade for the P226. That sounds like a pretty decent deal. What condition is the 226 in? If it just has normal wear on it, you're fine. The thing about SIGs is that they can be shot for years and years and still have enough left over for another generation of shooters. Single stack for the given size of the P6 is unreasonable by today's standards. Move on up a notch!

The P228/P229 is thicker in the slide than the P226, but is .5 inches shorter if that means anything to you for concealed carry. I find that they handle almost identically when shooting.

Handle the 226 some and especially check it out in your belt where you would carry it. When you're talking about carry, the subtlest difference will be more pronounced. It's not that much bigger or heavier 'on paper' but those difference will be more pronounced in the real world. (The real world in this case being your waistband!)

You're getting a lot of input and opinion on a choice only you can make - so here's mine, too! I've always thought capacity was over-rated for carry. There are those content with a 5-shot revolver (my occasional carry, too.) For normal daily carry, 8+1 9mm should suffice, but if I were a cop or a soldier I'd definitely carry something with 15 or more rounds on deck. There are plenty of people who carry full-size guns and say they "don't even know it's there":scrutiny: because they have such a good belt and holster. For me personally, the only full-size gun I own is a 1911 and I don't carry it. A single-stack 9mm is a near perfect balance of size, weight, capacity, power and "carryability" (again, just my opinion.) I've got a couple of S+W 39-- series that I carry and they are also the ones I shoot the most because I enjoy them. Small and light enough to carry well but still big and heavy enough to be fun shooting and be able to hit with. The 225 is my favorite Sig for these same reasons.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have decided to definitely give the matter more thought and I'll rent a 226 next time I go to the range and shoot it side by side with my 225. You've helped me realize it's not a one-sided contest.

Best wishes for the new year.

Yes, very true! That's why I've gone back to 1911's.

I agree on 5 or 8+1 rounds, but my preference is for either .357 or .45

Honestly, I think you're overthinking it. Forget about a few milimeters this way or that, and 15 rounds vs. 8. I promise you that one of the two will fit your hand better than the other. That is the one to have, as you will likely shoot it better.

Personally, I find that the P225 (with Hogue checkered G-10 grips) works better for me in spite of my large hands. I shoot the P226 pretty well, but there's just something about the P225's slimness that just meshes so well in my hand.

P6 will be missed if you sell/trade it

I picked up two P6's when SOG was selling them for $279.00 a pop. I gunkoted one in tatical earth and installed night sights, which everyone keeps making offers to buy, and I'm getting ready to gunkote my second P6.
I'm not a big fan of 9mm but I love these P6's and for the price I paid..I'll keep them.
