Just got my RX slide for one of my p229 carries today. I dialed in the Romeo (and turned down the brightness.... this thing is bright). The Romeo is much brighter than my Trij RMR's .... but then again it takes batteries and they don't. All in all, it is promising. Big upgrade for the old p229.

And I was reminded of something that I knew but wasn't thinking about ... none of my holsters fit. I did find a place that makes holsters for it and I'll update this thread if/when I get one. I also have an IMI level 2 retention p229 holster made of some durable plastic (possibly Kydex, possibly not). I use IMI level 2's for my 226's and they are all great. However, I need to cut about 1 cm or 0.4 inches off the 'hood' part of the p229 holster for it to fit. Looks do-able with a Dremel and it will be a project for the weekend. Prolly won't get to shoot until the weekend anyways.

I have realized that it was serendipity that I only got one slide for my to EDCs. That leaves the other p229 stock so it still fits my IWB and shoulder holsters.

In the meantime here is a pick of 'Halfbreed' ... Legion upper and plain ole used lower to give you an idea of the slight color difference (hey, at least it's not cerakoted half-red ;) ):

Nice upgrade for your P229! I haven't gone the Romeo route...yet but I'm thinking about it.

Nice upgrade for your P229! I haven't gone the Romeo route...yet but I'm thinking about it.

I started with red dots by setting up my S&W M&P competition pistols with Trij RMRs and really liked them. For competition, they work well.

However there is the issue of 'hunting' for your sight upon drawing.

The Romeo has a much brighter dot which really makes it quicker and easier to find the sight if you're hunting for it.

I have been experimenting and practicing my draw and basically relying on muscle memory to get the dot visible on my draw and it works more than 95% of the time. The remainder, the dot is usually off to the upper left.

I need to continue practicing my draw to bring up these percentages.

Thanks for the info! As I wrote I'm thinking about getting some sort of electro-optic sight but when I actually get around to it is another matter altogether!

Moving with my glacier-like speed it could be quite some time (and probably several generations of optics later), before I make the move to get one!

Here I have just Dremeled out enough of the IMI p229 Level 2 holster to fit the Halfbreed, still needs polishing (tomorrow):

I have a black holster on the way (for formal occasions) ;)

Like the modification! Always good to see something useful repurposed for another gun!
