Representative Todd Rock (R-Franklin Co.) has a very similar petition to this as well. It's setup almost exactly the same way.

Signed petition, passing along to the wife, and will include in my column next Sunday.

Here's a modest proposal, let's give Philadelphia to New Jersey! Since it's the Philly area that's Pa.'s Money Pit, let's just put it where it belongs!

BTW TechAlG, Rick's a life member of the NRA

Signed. And, got a note from our Rep Debbie Kula that she is opposed to the bill. I don't think it has any chance of passing, but they keep trying to push these things on us.

When the day comes that the 'Masses' don't fume and scream when they try to pass one of these 'Reasonable Restrictions', we'll get it.

And then the real fun will begin....

That's another article about the issue. I live in PA myself. Plan on going to shopping malls and post offices and getting hundreds of signatures... oh, and calling all those legislators on the bill and telling them they've lost any hope of getting my vote.

The gun registration proposal, known as House Bill 760, is co-sponsored by

It took me about 5 minutes of "foot work" to get all that contact info, if you live in PA, take 5 minutes and use it!

Example of what I've written to each of these representatives.... I'll be calling them on Monday

Pennsylvania is a state that highly values its current stance on gun control and second amendment rights. I myself am a new resident, and specifically chose Pennsylvania for it’s stance on gun control. It has been my experience, from living in NJ that most legislators who pass draconic gun control measures don’t even understand what it is they’re passing and are simply being conned into thinking that their bill is going to make the state safer. In reality however, you are treating law abiding citizens as if WE were the criminals. Questions that I and others have about this bill are simple.

Our Questions:
-How many criminals that possess a firearm are going to register each firearm for $10 every year?

-Do legislators really think illegal firearms are going to be taken off the streets if the legal ones are being registered?

-How many of these same legislators are going to also follow this registration as they are not excluded themselves.

-Do these legislators think that by either taking possession of our firearms (if denied registration) or making us keep them locked up at home, we law abiding citizens have the opportunity and right to protect ourselves and family?

As our representatives, you have nothing to gain and everything to lose by supporting this bill. This issue can and will get your seat taken away at the next election, no gun loving American will in their right mind vote for you after this.

I request that you please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Brian D. Bradley

DiggityBiggity:

E-mailed Lisa Bennington. she isn't "my" rep, but I end up paying her too.

By the way, one thing she might be right on is the following. She proposes to require the posting on the Internet of all Pennsylvania statutes. Currently, they are not so available, Pennsylvania being the only state so arranged.

Re this lack of "transperancy", might it be that our employees, those elected things are not quite as proud of their work product, legislation, as they might be, and therefore desire to keep secret the nature of the "children" they are party to the conception of.

DiggityBiggity:

Re Lisa Bennington, I e-mailed here the evening I saw your post, and phoned her office on Monday.

The lady I spoke with there claimed that while Bennington has been a supporter, due to "significant" though undescribed changes that had been made to the proposal (HB 760); she had withdrawn her support/sponsorship.

A friend of mine who is very politically active indicated that there had been no changes made, that Bennington’s change of mind likely devolved from her having heard from the people, that is taking heat.

I wasn't sure if it would let me sign since i'm a little further south, but it did! I feel sorry for you guys....if it does, the housing market is still booming in North Carolina.

$10 a gun?? Are you kidding me!??

I just signed it and sent it on to everyone I know in PA.

Update: Cruz fixing bill 760 so it only applies to Philly:

2 lawmakers urge Phila. gun registry
By Vernon Clark
Inquirer Staff Writer

State Reps. Angel Cruz and Rosita C. Youngblood yesterday announced another effort aimed at reducing the flow of guns in Philadelphia, this time by allowing the city to create a gun-registry system.

Surrounded by reporters yesterday in his storefront office on North Fifth Street, Cruz said "something has to be done" to ease the wave of gun violence that has gripped the city.

Cruz said that while law-abiding citizens purchase guns, "bad people buy guns, too. This way we will know who has the guns."

Both legislators, however, conceded that their efforts have little chance of passing.

Cruz's original legislation, House Bill 760, called for establishing a statewide gun registry for anyone who buys a firearm. It also would have established a $10 registration fee for each gun purchased.

"If we could establish a significant gun registry system for the city, we could track illegal guns and discourage people from selling them for illegal purposes," Cruz said in a statement.

After receiving vocal opposition to the statewide registry, Youngblood last month offered an amendment that would limit the measure to Philadelphia.

She said gun owners in other parts of Pennsylvania have responded angrily to the idea of registering their firearms.

"People thought we were trying to take away their right to bear arms," said Youngblood, who represents parts of North and Northwest Philadelphia.

Youngblood said that by focusing the registry on Philadelphia, "I'm trying to relive some of the fear and stress out there," in other parts of the state.

Cruz said he amended the legislation to remove the $10 gun-registration fee to ease the cost on lawful gun owners, especially collectors whom he said described the fee as an unfair financial burden.

Cruz and Youngblood said they have received numerous mean-spirited e-mails from gun advocates.

Asked if he thought the legislation would pass in the face of traditional opposition from the gun-rights community, Cruz said: "I have to try something."

When asked the same question, Youngblood said: "The likelihood of passing this is slim."

"The communities that I represent in Philadelphia are very different than many other communities across this commonwealth," Cruz said in a statement. "In other parts of the state, they hunt animals; in Philadelphia, guns are used to hunt people."

The news and the legislators keep talking about this as being a simple "registration" bill. Why don't they address people's concerns with the REST of the thing?

"People thought we were trying to take away their right to bear arms," said Youngblood, who represents parts of North and Northwest Philadelphia.

No people thought you were trying to make them register their firearms for 10 each every freaking year. That and all the other sneaky crap they have mixed in with that bill. I wish politicians would just say what they mean.

Here is what Youngblood meant to say
I'm an idiot.

Oops, Forgot about the activism forum rules. Please forgive me for this outburst!
