Well its hot down here in Florida and carrying is getting more and more uncomfortable. Currently i carry IWB Appendix, which gets uncomfortable sitting for a while or walking around for a while(barrel rubs my leg). Ive heard that carrying OWB in a pancake holster is WAY more comfortable, im just wondering if since its OWB its harder to conceal? I'm 5'10" and weigh about 180, and where somewhat fitted shirts, but not at all tight. Think an OWB pancake would work for me? Im about to order one from Simply Rugged, just would like some other opinions before i make the purchase.

If you are fairly lean, a pancake may not be best. Matt del Fatti, on his site, advises that folks with a waist measurement of 32 inches or less are usually better served by a different design than the pancake, that has one tunnel loop, and one outboard loop. Pancakes, with two outboard loops, hurt me for years, and I generally settled upon what I use now, rigs with one tunnel loop and one outboard loop. I arrived at my conclusion long before I saw the del Fatti site, and do not actually own a del Fatti belt rig.

An exception to this is the Galco Concealable, which is a pancake, generically, but is sewn so as not to pinch thinner folks.

Most pancake rigs have a draw angle more suited to wearing behind the hip, though Simply Rugged has a third loop that offers a choice of draw angles. Depending upon hour build, and size of the holster, you may be able to wear your weapon at the appendix position, using the slot that the maker intends for the crossdraw position. I don't have a Simply Rugged rig, but will sometimes wear an SP101 at the appendix position, "Strong" side, outside the belt, with a
Kramer or Haugen crossdraw rig. This can be supremely comfortable, all day, though whether it is concealeable enough depends upon what I am wearing. In my normal clothing, it is not; I have to dress around a gun worn appendix outside the belt.

You can conceal OWB in a guayaberra style overshirt no problem. Depending on the size of the firearm, the grip may show when you bend or sit.

Pocket carry is probably the best option if your in shorts and a t-shirt and the firearm is small enough. Then IWB, then OWB, for me anyway.

Concealed OWB works if you have a good belt, and an untucked shirt that's not too clingy. Shirt doesn't have to be baggy.

i recently bought a wilderness instructor belt 5 stitch so my belt is pretty good id say. I also understand that id be switching to hip carry if i got a pancake holster. My waist is currently between 32-34 and im losing weight so maybe its not for me :/

I'm fat but not obese, and I carry a 4" Security Six at about 8:00 to 8:30 (I'm a lefty) and covered with a pocket T-shirt or a polo shirt. Even my wife hasn't discovered it.

The main difference between any IWB and any OWB is that an OWB is going to have visibility below the belt line, where an IWB won't. I use a Crossbreed Supertuck, year-round, in 100+ degree heat.

If you really want to use OWB, I would recommend a lot of oversized t-shirts.

The pancake or speed scabbard design is plenty concealable. The wide fore-and-aft loops tend to smooth out the whole package and make it more snag-free. They also tug it in close to your body.

An IWB conceals better but only a little bit better. You'll not have any trouble.

I currently use a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar to conceal/carry my Ruger KLCR .357mag.sometimes. It really works well either OWB or IWB. The difference as said above, IWB covers the lower part of the holster. It rides high and close to the body by design, especially at 3:15-3:30. I cover it with a just a little oversized t-shirt or a button up shirt not tucked in. I don't think a person's weight is relevant.

I've tried a few OWB holsters. I decided OWB just doesn't work for me. Even with a jacket or a sweatshirt hoodie on, I look like I'm hauling a chair strapped to my waist. Even with the same gun, IWB works MUCH better for me. Now I only conceal OWB while hiking. I usually have a small backpack on, or at least a camelback. I don't think anyone would notice.

I say make the purchase. Try it out with different clothing options, and even if you decide it won't work for you, it will make a good range holster at the very least.
