I have a Para Ordnance baby .45 with the Light Double Action trigger. The thing just won't function and I was considering sending it back to Para to see if they'd do whatever it took to make it work again - even if it cost me a couple dollars.

I haven't exactly heard the best reviews on these. Anybody with experience with these - you think I'm just wasting my time and money?

Para

Either send it to Para (call them first) or Pm me if you want to dump it. Usually it's something minor. Did you buy it new?

What exactly do you mean by "won't function?"

Did you buy the gun new or used?

Regardless of your answer, I definitely think you should have Para service it and put it back in action.

What's the alternative to getting it fixed?

If you look around on www.m1911.org forums, you'll see a Para subforum. The factory rep is George Wedge. I suggest contacting him and finding out what can be done. He seems to be sort of legendary over there.

If it were mine, I'd get it fixed. Then run it awhile and see whether I liked it. It's a handsome gun, but short 1911s barreled (and 1911 based) guns have a richly deserved reputation for not being reliable out of the box.

I bought it used from a friend. And honestly, it's been so long since I fired it, I don't recall exactly what the issue was. Almost surely it was a ftf/fte. And I vaguely recall perhaps a failure to go back into battery.

Thanks for the link to that site, it'll be helpful to read more. Sounds like you guys are saying they're not trash and that it likely can be fixed. I hope so - I LOVE the size of this gun.

I will contact Para and send it in.

If the failure was FTF or failure to go back fully into battery, I'd replace the recoil and magazine springs with Wolff (www.gunsprings.com). I've read more than a few posts over at www.1911forum.com stating that Paras are notoriously undersprung. I bought a P13.45 used in LN shape from a dealer for about $300 under what he was selling them for NIB. Took it to the range and had all sorts of reliability problems. Replaced the recoil spring and mag springs and it seems to have cleared the problem up. Every now and then I think about the poor guy who originally bought that pistol. I'm sure he took a bath on the trade. I hope it wasn't b/c of reliability issues. Replace the springs but keep your old ones. Try the pistol out and see what happens. The cost is minimal and the potential payoffs are great. If it doesn't help, put the old springs back in and send it to Para. That's what I'd do anyway. Sometimes the solution is real simple. Good luck.
