Has anyone seen this sale on Para Ordnance guns on Buds? I was just wondering if this is one of those "too-good-to-be-true" scenarios.. because it seems like a relatively good deal to me.

feeding issues. the extractor is formed way too long. the slide moves back a full 1/8 of an inch before the extractor contacts the rim of the shell to pull it out of the chamber. the breechface is cut too wide as well.

called para, and they told me to either ship it to them at my expense, or purchase another extractor on brownells.

this is their "gold medallion best in the industry" lifetime warranty.

OK, those are extremely valid reasons lol. That's a horrible gun story btw.

So I'm kind of hoping that some of the Para Lovers will show up in this thread and give me some input tho, I've had a lot of them suggest Para 1911s too me.

I have a Para C-645 that I have had for several years now and love it.
She is a reliable good shooting little gun and great for concealed carry.

Count me as a Para Lover, mine has been flawless. Of course I made sure mine functioned correctly before I bought it. PM me if you want to know more - the signal to noise ratio on the open forum is too high.

I have an early P14-45. I love it. Never had any problems other than the porting (bought the gun used, I didn't do it :p) causing fouling with dirty ammo/powder after about 100 rounds.

Para QC and Customer Service is some of the worst in the industry. My first Para was a P18 I bought from sight unseen from Buds. Big mistake.

Right out of the box you could see tool marks from the machining process.
In addition, it failed to return to battery every single time. I effectively had a single shot pistol. I took it home and and spent some time with it. Four things were wrong with it. The reason it failed to return to battery everytime without a gentle tap is becuase the slide was catching on the sear disconnector and the slide lock.
It did some agrresive polishing to the slide, and took some metal off of the slide stop and smoothed the sear disconnector which got it running fine for a few shots I tried it.The trigger sucked. It was 7 lbs according to my scale and that was after I polished it some.

When I called Para they blamed me for the probelms it was having but said I could send it to them and they would fix it. They would not pay for the shipping up front and had over a 5 week turn around. When the guy on the phone blamed me I would have pimp slapped him then and there if he would have been close enough to. I fixed the gun myslef and sold it.

A few weeks ago I decided to try again and bought a LTC alloy framed 9mm. Not to bad out of the box, the workmanship was much better. The trigger still sucks but I know how to do a trigger job cheaply so no big deal. When I went to take the grips off the bushing came out with it. /sigh.

Dude, just do yourself a favor and stay the hell away from Para until they get thier business together.

Long time Par owner with a p12 and a p14. Neither have given me any problems, but then they date back to the day of just the SA Paras.

I carry a P-16 in 40 S&W. everyday. Wouldnt trade it for anything. Never had any issues with it. Every Thursday I run between 200-600 rounds through it. One word of caution with the Para's is when they are brand new some of them will give you feeding issues. Mine did for about 1500 rounds, but now I can run round nose, swc's, truncated cone, flat points and of course hollow points. Thats more than I could say for my Kimber Custom II It stoved piped on me after I put 2 rounds into a pissed off dog that was gonna eat me for lunch! I am glad the first two shots hit the mark...

Para's are like Kimbers and Taurus: Some good, some bad and no way to tell until AFTER you have dropped your $$ on the gun.

Great prices on that sale, I'm on the fence regarding Para: my ex had one of the original P10s and I loved it (she hated it, but that was because she chronically limpwristed it and also had problems with the heavy recoil spring) so my limited experience with them is positive, but I'm hearing a lot of negative out there. Since there are abundant options for 1911-pattern guns, I may be reconsidering Para.

For the price they are asking for some of the used Para's, you could buy yourself a brand new STI Spartan.

At least you are guaranteed good customer service (if it does need any work) and your pistol WILL shoot accurately.

Just my $0.02.

The old Para line-up, from the SSP, to LDA, to the double stack models has generally had a good reputation. Those pistols came with a ramped barrel, something Para must have been pretty good at. However, since the move to North Carolina from Canada and the introduction of the GI Expert line, Para has taken some hits in the on-line reviews.

I'm confident they will get it worked out, since their long term reputation is good, but I don't think I would buy a Para GI Expert sight unseen.
