For the last several months it seems like the cover of every gun magazine has had something from Para Ordnance on the cover. Warthog, Para 9, Para Carry, whatever. Para Ordnance is not one of my favorite brands and I like a little variety regardless. Does the PX just have a limited selection of magazines or have other people noticed this too?

They just have good advertising strategies.

That, combined with high-quality firearms will get you on the cover of plenty of magazines. I am highly biased, because I LOVE both of my Para-Ordnance LDA's, but I think they have some of the best handguns on the market, and they are constantly coming up with new ideas.

You want a single-stack, single-action, Government Model? Para makes 'em.
You want that pistol in double-action? high-capacity? Officer size? Commander size? Para makes them, too.
You want an 18 round, 5" barreled, double-action 1911, chambered in 9mm? Yep, Para's got you covered.
You want a 10-round, 3" bbl, single-action .45 ACP 1911, with night sights and a rail? Hey, meet the NightHawg.
Now you want it in 9mm, with a 12-round mag? Para 9 anyone?

Face it, they make a lot of guns, based on a tried and true system; some models of which have been seriously tweaked, and they've been used quite successfully in high-level competition. Are they inexpensive? That depends on your budget, I suppose. (They are not inexpensive to me.) But, they aren't the most expensive, either. Not by a long shot. They make a great product, and they know how to get their name out there. Nothing wrong with that in my book. In fact, it sounds like good business sense.
