I would like to know if a non-plastic magazine catch is available for the Para Ordinance P14. I have no idea why they would make this particular part out of plastic. It still works but seems to release the magazine much too easily.

Has anyone else replaced or had problems with this part?

Thanks,
Frank

Weird, a while back I emailed Para asking about their parts materials. They said there were no plastic parts. Maybe they meant just on the hicap9, but I'm now I'm skeptical.

Yes, steel ones are available.

brownells.com seems to be down at the moment, but I have seen them in there.

Looked all over...

I am limited as my only I-net access is at work and blocks almost everything I might even think about being interested in. We just recently got a wireless access grant :) and I just got through scouring the net. I found a couple but lead time on the one I know will fit is 30+ days(Midway) and the other from Fla.GunWorks doesn't say P14 so I'd have to email them to find out if it'll fit. I'll go back to the wireless CPU and check Brownells. Thanks guys...

And yes the part in my P14 IS plastic. I was really surprised but at least on a SS gun the plastic won't rust out Har dee har har...... It is just flimsy and loose fitting and doesn't seem to hold mag very well. I WANT a metal part... SS if possible but blued steel would suffice.

Thanks,
Frank

Perhaps it really isn't plastic, but glass-filled nylon. Or some kind of hi-stregth polymer. I was looking at my P14-45 Limited, and whatever the mag button is made of, I think the trgger is made of it too. I always talk about replacing both of these parts with some kind of metal alternative, but never do. Let us know how it turns out.

Brownells...

Just ordered from Brownells. Thanks for the info.

According to one of the parts listed on Brownells the original Para part is plastic. To me it looks like it is plastic, not any wierd composite stuff.

Anyway I ordered the Para Ord. made parts. Stainless steel Mag. Catch, Mag. Catch Lock, and spring. For a few extra bucks I figured I'd get the lock and an extra spring. Just in case (last time I took it out the spring went flying and I almost didn't find it).

Thanks for the help. I might not have remembered Brownells or even found it searching if not for the help.

Frank

More later after I get the parts and put them in....:)

It is plastic on a stock gun, absurd to think that a plastic mag catch and steel magazines are going to get along for any period of time.....

I have a couple steel ones, one from GunCraft, and two from Dawson. All are well made and work fine.

FWIW the range I go to has an old mil-spec P14 rental that's poorly maintained in terms of spring replacements and cleaning. Most of the parkerizing is worn off the frame, and it has an unkown number of rounds through it. One look at it, you know its well used (and the owner wont sell it).

IIRC, it still has the platsic mag catch.

They were plastic at one time but factory has went away from that idea. I won't knock Para but do think way over priced I had and sold mine in 3 mo. time. Was never 100% happy with pistol. Still in show case at dealer been their about 2 months now.
