The recoil spring on my Slim Hawg has about 23 Lbs of torque. I was wondering whether I could swap it out for a 17 Lb Colt defender spring. Would anyone know whether the defender spring would fit the Hawg? and if so, would it compromise the functionality of the pistol?

Why would you do that? My guess is you'd probably turn the pistol into a single-shot jam-o-matic. Short 1911's are very sensitive to the types of changes you're thinking about doing.

If the pistol works well with the factory spring, get a new spring. You might find one at Brownell's or Wolff... but certainly Para would stock it.

It's just a bit stiff to rack, particularly when trying to engage slide stop. Gun works fine the way it is though so maybe I'll take your advice and leave well enough alone.
