Passenger pigeons, ivory billed woodpeckers, now H&R

I'm just wondering why I can search all over with google and bing, yet find nothing about H&R shutting down 3 days ago....

Too bad, H&R has a distinct niche in the market: simple, affordable, reliable guns made in America. I still kick myself for not getting one of the H&R CR-45LC carbines while I had a chance. I wonder if Marlin will be next?

Sadly, what used to be hundred dollar guns now have to be sold for a pricepoint around $300 to make any money. If you keep your eyes open, you can get a savage or ruger bolt action for not much more and they are great and accurate guns.

Time change. I wonder who will buy the brand and equipment? I do wish CVA would get it's act together and ship more Hunter and Scout rifles. The Hunter sells for less than a Handi and is in my opinion a much better break action single shot.

i always wanted a......

..........Buffalo Classic. Thought it would be fun to load those big shells with "holy black" and try some long range shots.

One thing I like about the Handi Rifles is that you can still get many of them with wood, not plastic, essentially the same gun that H&R and its predecessors have been selling for 100 years. If I had feed my family using just one gun, a 12- or 20-gauge single-shot break-open H&R shotgun would be about perfect. Ditto something like a .243 or .30-30 or .44 Magnum or .45 Colt Handi-Rilfe for deer hunting, caliber dependent on the region of the country and type of terrain, if I could have a second gun just for deer. Add a basic .22 and you've got everything covered short of very big game.

PS--Those CVA models look like great basic rifles, but the lack of iron sights puts me off, and I like wood.

Why would H&R shut down? Folks are still buying record numbers of firearms.

Then again, I'm hesitating getting my boy a .22 for his birthday due to the shortage of ammo. I have some, but want to start him using shorts.

Despite all the current craziness, .22LR is still about half the price per round of centerfire ammo, so that should still work out fine.

Fred,

I'm still having trouble finding it locally. Price is not a problem; it's availability.

Would love to get him an H&R. I'm not crazy about those Chipmunk rifles or whatever they are.

Late last year I posted about the H&R break-tops being dropped, those are dead.
At the time, a rep said the imported shotguns would continue to be carried under the H&R brand, and I confirmed that again this morning.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Savage Rascal. Great first rifle. Perfect for little ones. Very accurate. The aperture sight is a pain to adjust but works very well. Can also be scoped. When he grows out of it, it becomes a superb camping rifle. Again, ridiculously good shooter!

I was building a single shot in .308. Took the stock from my NEF shotgun, bought a H&R receiver, and now all I need is the barrel. I guess I'm screwed now?

Grey Beard Outdoors. H&R Classifieds. 308 isn't that common but keep your eyes open - or you may come across another caliber you like!

I just picked up a 30-30 ejector that I'm having rebored and chambered in 35 Krag.

Who is doing your rebore? I've only found people willing to stub barrels or line shotgun barrels.

I've thought for a while that at H&R in 22 Hornet rebored to .327 Fed Mag would be a fun gun.
