I picked up 3 boxes of 00 buck in 10 gauge 3.5" for a public hog hunt that is buckshot only on a local wildlife management area. I've got an NEF 10 gauge and only have two chokes for it, modified (which I use for geese) and X full, a turkey choke that it came with. I've got to get out to the range and see in the next couple of days, but what choke do YOU think would work best and does anyone know of a source for 10 gauge NEF chokes in full and I/C? NEF only offers the mod and X full as far as I can tell. I'm thinkin', hopin' the modified will work cause I think the X full would be too tight.

Opinions, sources?

The Modified will come way closer to working then the X-Full Turkey choke!
Not even sure I'd try patterning with that one!

NEF choke tubes should be interchangable with Winchester, Weatherby, Browning Invector & Mossberg 500 style threads if that helps any.

How many pellets are in a 10 gauge load of 00?

18 Couldn't find any 000 or I'd have got that. Same 18 count, but 36 caliber.

Does the Browning BPS 10 gauge use invector chokes? Yeah, i was thinkin' that X full might not be smart to stuff 00 into. LOL It specifically warns not to use steel in it. The mod is steel compatible. It tosses a really tight pattern with T shot, so I reckon I'll just play with the mod choke and leave the X full at home. Hate to damage something.

Modified.

In fact, in days gone by, my testing of 10 ga did really well with Mod and IC choked guns, with less pellets in 3" shells , reloaded on a MEC, using grits, farina, and cream of wheat for buffer instead of Winchesters's Grex buffering.

10 ga is more efficient than it should be, much like the 28 ga .

For those with the old Marlin Goose gun, with 36" barrels and fixed full choke, a loading of 2 3/4 and 3" shells ( I /we cut longer shells shorter) with a load of hard number 5 shot, either nickel or copper plated obtained at the time, was one heck of a turkey load, with very little felt recoil.
Again, using grain for buffering material.

McGunner, my friend, you need to find a steal of a deal on single stage reloader, and tweak some loads to your chokes, for tasks.

sniff...
I smell bacon, hams, sausage, ribs...

I'm one ahead of ya, SM. I've got a MEC to play with, just waiting to order some components. :D I need steel shot for sure. I can get lead shot locally. Not sure about buck, though, may have to order it.

My buddy in Waco has a used washer and dryer I have to go pick up. I might take the 10's choke along. He has a BPS 10. I can see if my choke will fit in his gun. If so, I know an I/C for a browning will work. I may have to see if I can order one, but Larry (my buddy) had trouble getting a choke for his gun, so who knows? He had to get it direct from Browning and they put him off saying they'd be doing a production run next month. Hmmm, I guess that's to be expected with a rather unpopular gauge.
