Well, I fell for the hype and bought a box of Remington's Hevi Shot turkey loads. I took them to the range over the weekend and gave them a try. I wasn't able to reproduce the tight, evenly distributed pattern shown in the ads (duh!). I used a turkey choke, full choke and modified choke. The load left significant holes in the pattern with all the chokes. I was shooting at 40 yds with a 28" 870. The old, trusty Winchester Supreme turkey loads shot through a turkey choke patterned much better.

Saturday morning it's going to be, "Gobble, gobble, boom!"

A friend of mine tried some out this weekend, and had the exact same comments this morn. He had also ordered on of the special Hevi-Shot chokes, and wasn't pleased at all. He (and I) shoots the Federal Premium #5's, and they patterned much better.

Good luck, looks like they are calling for rain this weekend. I'll be up in Sharp County.

Bob,

I was really disappointed with that high-dollar ammo. I never have tried the Federals. I've always had good results with the Winchester and so never tried anything different (until now). I hunt in western Pulaski county. We've seen several turkeys and a lot of sign. I'm looking forward to a good season. I teach school, so cannot hunt during the week. I really like starting the season on Saturday.
