After too much time procrastinating... It's up. And I feel all sorts of stress from the last few years evaporating.

4 Cameras
480 lines of resolution...
320 feet of cable run through conduit and the wall... (4x 60' runs come with, I needed to pick up 2 100 foot runs separately)
Self-illuminating IR-Night vision...
500GB HDD
Smartphone connectivity...
E-mail alerts when the field of view changes...

Running conduit, and having a friend help me, we got the main physical install done in a very relaxed 4 hours.

Now hiding the DVR behind paneling and running false visible wires inside from the conduit entry point (yes, that kind of precaution is needed here) , but it's working flawlessly.

I could have gotten another decent pistol... true enough.

For this system I paid under $450 for the higher-resolution cameras, and I can now leave the house again without the nagging fear of a specific family member cleaning my house out again. (there are much less expensive systems)

She missed my few antique rifles beforehand, now from anywhere in the world I can summon the Police should she think that it's "safe" because my car isn't parked at the house.

Can't wait to see what the Night vision looks like tonight.

Just thought I'd share today... I honestly think most of us could benefit from something as simple as this. The price is just too low for the peace of mind.

Nope, just the external, No need to watch the folks living here.

I just have the unpleasant luck of my primary security threat having lived in this house for 12 years before we took posession. The locks were changed, but they know every "sneaky" way into the house.

I actually lined one of the ways with exposed 3" drywall screws angled outward.

No crawlspace access for them. But I never underestimate a Prescription narcotic abuser.

I do also have 3 wireless cameras that can run on a 9v battery, and are easily stashed in a tree if need be, but I dislike wireless broadcasts.

And here we have Night... all external illumination on the house has been killed for this picture.

Need to adjust each of the cameras slightly, get a bit more of the house itself out of the image and more of the area. Kill the reflected IR glare off the house a bit.

Also need to run a second video feed up to the Living room screen, (not just my cave) but for now...

I think I may actually sleep tonight.

Because the Varmint spent most of their childhood there before alienating what little family there was to piss off.

We've not seen hide nor hair of the varmint in question in nearing 2 years. But I keep getting presents...

Medical bills in their name...Jury Summons addressed to my house in their name...

Their student loans that my mother in law Co-signed for...

I was already paying for my In-law's House after my Father in law Died of old age, We've been covering 2 households worth of bills since the Junkie got my mother in law Fired by using her Boss' ID when getting popped for shoplifting...

Yes, I'm a good son in law... Don't rub it in.

With the cameras online now, Hopefully any chance they have of accessing the house is as close to Nil as I can make it short of steel blast-doors, guard towers and concertina wire.

Really nice setup Dnaltrop!

My prayers for your family problems. Similar situation here involving my youngest daughter (30 YO). Actually it's with the crowd she hangs with. So far threats with live demonstrations (no firearms) has kept the vermin at bay but I feel an escalation on the horizon. I'll be looking into a similar setup soon.

I would run a separate stand alone cheap system on your gun safe or specific hi value items, set to catch the face close in, doesn't have to be plumbed online, just there so if she does show up, and looks for something, you've got her.

OH, and in the military, you light up your perimeter, keep the compound dark, you can see out, and they can't see in.

Can you list make and model #s

Any thought to linking the cameras to the Internet? So you can see them when not home?

Swann DVR 2600-4

Didn't want to sound like a salesman by throwing the link up at once. I Ordered it from Radioshack for a bit less than this with a Coupon I'd had sitting around.

Yes, it has the capability to connect to the net, I've just not found my buried box of cables to make that final connection. Will update once I get that done.

I almost got the 8 camera system, but that would have lead to cameras inside the house. I'm good knowing who enters my house, and when.

My friends are cut from better cloth, but you can Choose those.

Edit- For comparison, Usually about $100 (give or take) less, the systems have fewer lines of resolution/grainier picture. 420 lines for this system.

Wow thats a Pretty good setup for a decent price. Do you have internet monitoring access if you are not home or just alerts on your phone?

Any web browser I'll wager but they go with the old IE standby in the manual.

And here is the Swannview app section, with the list of compatible smartphones. I've got the EVO 4g for... 5 more days till it's successor comes out on Friday. (I've been overdue on an upgrade for a while now)

I will vouch for their Customer service over the phone, When I first powered it up, the system was in PAL and I couldn't figure out why the pictures were screwed up, very short hold time and they got me to switch over to NTSC rapidly.

The good thing about inside cameras is that you can have your DVR set to alert your phone if a motion is detected if the camera is set on motion trigger.

Its practically impossible to do on an outside camera. Even the inside is tricky on the sensitivity due to the movement of light. You can go into each camera and set zone sensitivity.

Otherwise you have to be watching the cameras to catch someone in the act.

I just got the Swann 8 camer system online at bestbuy. $438 shipped. I have a neighbor who thinks he can vandalize at will. The cameras have freaked him out.

I've noticed that about the motion sensors, I've spent a few days trimming bushes here and there, but 3 of 4 cameras are now only turning on when the cat or dog makes their rounds.

Still playing with the zones and positions when I can get the ladder out, in the brief interludes within the utter chaos that is 3 children under 10, turned the Front one to cover the Wife's car as well. (One car is out of commission or I'd have headed out to get the last cables already for the Net)

I'm sure the newness will wear off, but I'm really getting a kick at watching the shadows creep across the ground at "high" speed.

Too bad we're years away from HD cameras at this price.
