I have a couple of traditions rifles both in 54 and 50 cal. Both in
flint and cap. When i first got them they were good shooters. The cap being the best. Hard time getting use to the flint. I have a couple of others now. Zouave,3band and a charles dayly. My wife uses and does well with it...and i have been shooting longer then her. Well it is rendezvou time and my zouaves and three band just
don't fit in. I'm thinking about getting a kentucky long rifle in 45 from pedersoli. My wife wants me to get a silver star. A friend of mine at the club told me the old story you get what you pay for. So i'll more then likely get one. So what does everybody think any in put? Articap i never got a new lock for my hawkins its just a wall hanger now. To get a new lock that is a good one will cost a 1/3 the price of the rifle.

I have the Pedersoli Pennslyvania long rifle in .45 caliber. If is a great shooter but the lock absolutely EATS flints. I am lucky of I get 10 shots without having to knap or replace the flint. In addition, Pedersoli used an odd-sized small lock on that model rifle. There are NO high-quality replacements for it, and believe me, I've looked for one.

If I had to do it over again, I would stay away from Pedersoli just because of the lock.

TVM has some nice ones. I can't vouch for the quality cuz I've never handled or shot one but they do "look" nice. Track of the Wolf however I have dealt with and find them to be top-notch folks. Of course I can go right to the shop so I am a bit biased. Bought one of their kits and made it into a pretty nice shooter and deerslayer. Both firm's rifles are a bit more pricey than Pedersoli and I had to build my Track rifle, but it was a great learning experience.

HEY THANKS, I THOUGHT PEDERSOLI WAS ONE OF THE TOP OF THE LINE GUNS.
I'LL CHECK TRACK OF THE WOLF, I GOT A MONTH AND HALF TO FIND WHAT I WANT. ANYBODY KNOW OF A GOOD LONG RIFLE OUT THERE LET ME KNOW.
THANKS:banghead:

Perdosoli is top notch. Praise to them. They make a lot of guns no one else does and they do a good job at it.

Scrat, I agree with you on all points except for the quality of the flint lock in my own rifle. As a well-respected barrel maker and flint lock tuner told me, Pedersoli makes their flint locks to sell, not necessarily to be durable. I expect mine to beat itself apart in the not-too-distant future, since the forward movement of the cock is arrested by the bridle screws, not by the cock shoulder coming into contact with the top of the lockplate as it was supposed to do.

This is just my experience. Hopefully, others will have a better experience.

I don't see why you won't just send them the gun as they requested so they can fix it. It shouldn't cost more than $30 to ship it to them.

Look at the sale price on the Pedersoli standard Kentucky .50 percussion.

Here's Armisport Chiappa Kentucky rifles (the prices are Canadian Dollars):
