Peep Sights

I have a Rossi Model 92 and would like to find a good, adjustable peep sight for it. Has anyone used a peep sight one one of these rifles, or can you recommend one. Lyman and Marbles don't seem to list one in their on-line catalogues.

Brownells stocks a Marbles tang sight that looks to fit the Rossi 92. Stock # is 579-000-088

By all means, get the Marbles, not the Lyman, if they even make one.

The Marbles sight is adjustable for both windage & elevation.

The Lyman has to be shimmed under the base if windage needs adjustment, which it always will.

midwayusa.com has both the Lyman and Marble's sights.

Also, Taurus, who bought Rossi, now makes an adjustable tang sight that should work on your gun, but I've never seen one in the ferrous flesh.

I do see them for sale on gunbroker.com and other places for lower prices than the above two.

Midway might have the Taurus sights also, I've never checked.

Don't hesitate to use a receiver sight rather that a tang sight. They are much less fragile and don't get in the way of your hand when grasping the wrist of the stock. Lyman was making receiver sights in the 1920s, so they are well within the range of being authentic for 1892 clones.

Lyman's #2 tang sight was being made in the 1880's and I have one on my 1971-made Winchester 1894 .30-30. It made accuracy much better in any situation I've used this rifle in... general shooting, match, or deer hunting.

I've found it's just as easy to shoot a Winchester with the tang sight as with a receiver sight. Lay your thumb along the side of the stock's wrist... also makes it easier to rack the lever for faster follow-up shots. The SASS/CAS crowd... a good many of them do it all the time regardless of rear sight; I know because I picked it up from them.
