Mods, Please move if this isn't the correct forum to ask.

I'm looking for pepper spray for my wife. She is currently carrying Mace brand triple action pepper spray but is worried that our 2 year old could inadvertently spray herself as the "safety" is easy to get around. She carries it buried in her diaper bag because she doesn't want our daughter to get into it. If she needed it she wouldn't be able to find it fast enough.

Does anyone have any suggestions on something that would have a more "adult" safety and be more child proof?

Also she refuses to carry in on her (belt/pocket). I bought her some bear mace but she didn't think it was funny .

Sinchronisity or however it is spelled occurs a lot around here.

Wednesday I gave my wife a fresh can of a three fer (Pepper CS UV dye) in a can small enough and with a small enough load of chemical to be legal at her particular work place.

The problem is if it is hard for baby to spray herself, it is hard for Mom in a frightening moment to spray a bad guy.

I take it the Mace brand uses the same set up they used from the late '60's on, a springloaded cover that is pushed up by the thumb and then a button that the same thumb depresses under the cover?

About the only alternative I know of is the twist and press buttons that are on everyone elses cans. WHen on safe the nozzle points about 90 degress to th side and into a cover. The button has a tail on it that one rotates with the thumb and then depresses.

Some find this a bit more secure than the mace cover and some think it harder to use in a hurry.

I personally think the mace cover works best from a carrier on a belt and the other is more user friendly for tossing and carrying where ever.

If your wife believes the child to be more likely injured by the spray a little than a bad guy a lot, there is not much you can do about it.

My wife's go to defense when she was on family leave and carting the babies around before returning to work was the HK P7 PSP full of Corebonds she used in Mas Ayoob's LFI 1 class. She is not happy about not having such at work but she does keep Pepper/CS/ UV dye in her purse and in her desk drawer at work. She uses the second type I meantioned the twist and press and has her tactics for in office pre planned and expects to be effected by the spray herself in that fairly closed environ.

She just walked in and read this and adds "I would rather be affected by spray than affected by a bad guy."

If she won't carry where she can get to it there's no need to worry about it. Spray has to be accessible to have much real value.

I'd suggest going to the local police supply and asking to look/handle different sprays until she finds something that she's willing to protect the life of her child with.

The idea of a human being having the right to defend themselves is something I'm hoping you both agree on, it's just the method. Why not some martial art training? I think weapon selection is very personal, my Wife is the same, won't carry a gun, finally talked her into mace after YEARS.

May consider a Kimber pepper blaster2 in a nylon case for a ruger LCP? She could then carry on her person- the most safe for everyone.

My wife refuses to touch a handgun but she does carry a Kimber pepper blaster II. Nice little tool and from the reviews and videos I have seen of it. It looks to be pretty effective.

I second the pepper blaster,I got them for both of my girls and they love them. Get extras and let then shoot it once. Points like a gun, has a good range and has two shots just in case.

Disclaimer-this is my opinion and yours may vary.

I just got some for my son's GF at Cabella's. They had at least 25 different selections, and those were just the pink ones. If I had to secure this in a diaper bag, I'd put it in one of the outside pockets and put a couple of stitches in the flap with a light cotton thread. Your wife will be able to rip it open and the child will not be able to.
