Some time ago I picked up a Persian Mauser in a group of guns that I bought. I didn't know anything about it and figured I'd sell it quickly.

I got a chance to do some research on it this weekend and the more I read the more impressed I became. My gun was made in Czekoslovakia (no idea how to spell it) in 1930. The gun feels like no other rifle I've ever owned. it's long, it's heavy, it is solid, it has every bit of the old world craftsmanship you'd expect from a gun of that era, and it points so well when I bring it to shoulder that it feels like a custom gun.

I might just keep it.

My favorite Mauser crest of all.

I don't own one but from what I see they are one of the best Mausers made. Yours looks amazing, thanks for sharing.

Thanks. This is going to be one of my very few 'safe queens'. I don't know that it's ever been shot…therefore I'm not going to either.

I have one and it's not as nice as that. Yours is beautiful and not one for bouncing around in a pickup.

I'd still shoot it. If you do you'll be pleased with the accuracy.

Beautiful rifle ... many Persians are. They and the Argy M1909 are virtually the pinnacle of Mauser manufacturing. They look and feel QUALITY and many of them look like they were never issued.

It's your rifle and your decision to shoot it or not ... but I shoot mine. If you reload ... that's perfect. If you don't ... buy some Privi 8mm Mauser. You won't hurt that rifle one bit by shooting it. I'd just stay away from Milsurp ammo ... I see no value in shooting corrosive ammo when it's not necessary.

I just think it's a shame to have Safe Queens, especially when they are military rifles that were exected to go to war and serve in that capacity for decades.

WOW! That is a beauty. It's probably one that Samco imported. From the looks I'd bet it's unissued. They had 2 or 3 grades. After looking at yours I'll kick myself again for not buying one back when they were around 300 bucks with matching bayonet and test target.:banghead:

I have the matching bayonet but not the target. I'm sure the original owner had the target but this was from his estate after he passed away. His adult children really didn't know anything about guns or collections. I'm sure the target is in a folder somewhere.

I also purchased a WWII PPK that had capture papers...but the kids had no idea where they were and wanted to get everything done in a hurry...sadly those too are sitting somewhere gathering dust.

Why is it every time I hear the word "Persian", I repeat it in my head using Leonidas's voice from 300.... Nice rifle by the way, real beauty.

I have an M49 carbine that has been skillfully put into a Mannlicher full stock and nose cap with an engraved floor plate. Love it even as a shooter and it throws tremendous fireballs!

I bought one many years ago from Samco for $200. I got a VG condition with the stock chewed up. I shot it and way hitting way left. The front sight post cannot be moved easily needs a special tool. Anyways, i called Samco and returned it with full refund.

I know this thread is 3 months back but....Just picked up a daewoo ar100 yesterday, the guy I purchased from also has a beautiful persian mauser just like the one on this thread, it's for sale....but he asked me to throw an offer, gonna start at $500? What ya think? And hopefully my first mauser:)

Ok purchased my first mauser/persian, though not as beautiful as gspn's here....I hope $750!is a good price, comes with original bayonet/sheath to the rifle. Will post on new thread once I pick it up

Once again beautiful p/mauser. gsp:cool: thanks for sharing

That's definitely some of the nicest wood on any Mauser that I have seen in quite awhile. Beautiful condition overall with recognition of the old world craftsmanship that went into the making of this well preserved rifle. Thanks for sharing.

Stunning rifle.

I have a hard time believing that the finish on that wood and that bluing can possibly be original on a military rifle. If it is.....WOW.
Are there any import markings on it?

Persians can be found in the most pristine condition on many occasions. Many believe they have been refinished, when in fact they have been in storage.
They are highly sought after and get a premium when found, I would hang on to that treasure, clean it, maybe even shoot it (once or twice) and pass it down.
You are truely a lucky man! :D

Was it in the early 1990's when someone ( Century? Samco? whoever?) was bringing these things in and they were absolutely mint... I thought about getting one but didn't and have regretted it ever since. In the early 90's I also acquired one of the nicest Mod. 95 Chilean Mausers I've ever seen for $180. It wasn't unfired but seemed almost so. Even the cleaning rod number was matching to the gun. They are in 7x57 so I ran about 10 rounds of non-corrosive commercial ammo through it just for a function test and sight check. Then it became a safe queen that received just an annual cleaning and wipe down. It was so nice I didn't feel comfy shooting it anymore. Then in late 2007 I had to thin out both gun safes and also wanted a mint Ruger Redhawk at the LGS... So I took the Mod 95 to the local gun show and sold it to a private individual (not a dealer) for $350..; almost twice what it cost me in the early '90's.... And the guy got a real good deal on it! So if I had that mint Persian it would not be a shooter; just a "keeper" that I could take out of the safe and fondle a couple times a year and if I needed more room in the safe or $$ for another gun I'm sure I could always get my money out of it. I still kind of regret seeing that Chilean go.... It was soooo nice that I do miss having it around just for the sheer beauty of it.
