Does any one have any info on Persian Mausers, or a good place to get some. My dad recently acquired what he believes is a Persian Mauser in 8x57mm. He thinks it is a war bring back from a recently deceased relative.

There are no English markings on the gun, all Arabic. It is in pretty rough shape cosmetically but has a clean barrel. It also has a short barrel but does not appear to have been cut down.

I haven't got to see it yet, hopefully I can post some pics this weekend.

I remember that they were brought in about fifteen years or so ago. They were some that were basically like new and could be had with matching number bayonets. They were beautiful rifles and were rather pricey as I recall. There were some that were in lessor condition also. I believe they were made by Mauser in the 30's.

I seriously doubt if his is a war trophy, but you never know.

Edited to add: Per the link below, I see I was wrong, they are made in Czechoslovakia.

Persian's and Swede's are the Cadillac's of mausers, generally better in every way (workmanship, metalurgy, and fit & finish) from what I've seen, and their prices reflect that. I have, however seen abused ones as well, but as an owner of two Yugo's(M24/47,M48a) and a German 98k, I will own a Persian; someday!
They are sometimes found in pristine condition and unissued.
They are truely masterpieces in the mauser world!!
