There is a police shooting that has had heavy coverage by the media as of late. As many of you might recall, Philando Castile was shot and his girlfriend Diamond Reynolds then immediately live streamed the aftermath with an oddly calm voice. A few months before this incident I personally had a situation with Diamond Reynolds and Philando Castile. As a person who has carried concealed firearms for many years, I immediately was able to spot that Philando Castile had a full size handgun. He was seated and reclined back about thirty feet away from where I was standing. He had baggy, way oversized basketball shorts and stuffed down his waist was a full size handgun. He was holding up his shorts and gripping the handgun under his shorts with his right hand. I have never told anyone (even my wife) about what happened and I will not give details.

The situation that I had with this couple was one of the more intense concealed carry situations that I have ever been in. Therefore when the news broke about this couple I obviously have taken a lot of interest. What I have not been able to find in the media is the brand and model of Philando Castile's pistol. I eventually found a detailed photo and figured out it is a Diamondback DB9FS.

Attached is a photo of the handgun. At first I thought it was a total aftermarket Glock build with an 80% complete, no serial number, Glock clone frame. I now know it is a Diamondback DB9FS. After getting close to being in a gunfight with someone armed with this handgun, does anyone here know much about these pistols? Anyone own or have shot one? It seems like it might be a good, less expensive pistol. I am now intrigued by the pistol.

Are you really taking the highroad by asking that question with all of the pretext you attached to it?

The situation I had with a couple who are now heavily reported on did draw my attention to a handgun I had never seen before. The Diamondback looks like an improved Glock from the exterior so I am really curious about it.The personal situation I had is in conflict with the narrative being presented by the major media. Either I am taking the high road or the major media is taking the high road. It is one or the other. You can take your pick k-mo.

Thanks for the article. I see that Diamondback has been bought by Taurus. The firsts photos I saw of the pistol carried by Castile were small and grainy. I thought at first it was maybe a carved and textured Polymer 80 Glock clone frame with an aftermarket slide and trigger. I thought at first it was a full blown custom race gun/competition pistol.

The incident that I had I have replayed in my mind numerous times. What I did right and wrong and what I should do in a similar situation in the future, are things I have thought about. It also caused me to draw a lot of focus on the firearm. I could see that Castile had a full size pistol under his oversized shorts. My focus was primarily on Castile, however it was Reynolds that was close to me and the agitator. I have since read where she has attacked someone with a hammer. I had my Sig p938 (a 9mm Sig version of the Colt Mustang) on my right side and I kept positioned so they could not see any printing from my pistol. I was not their focus.

Until I came upon a better photo I had never seen or read anything about this Diamondback pistol. It like how the grip is shaped. I have a Glock 35 and I have a Wolff 357 Sig 6 inch barrel in it. As much as I like the Glock 35, the grip could be better shaped.

Thank you.

As I read the OP, I was trying to figure out how to say the same thing. You worded it better than I would have.

You could see he was carrying - and you allude to irresponsibility in how he was carrying - yet you remained in the vicinity?

Then, you claim to have had an "intense concealed carry situation" (whatever that really means - did either of you brandish your weapons or threaten the other with the fact you were carrying?) that you didn't bother to describe to your wife at the time and won't discuss now, yet you use it to impugn the character of a dead man who cannot speak in his own defense?

So, you focused on the armed person who was doing nothing that you have mentioned (beyond touching his pistol under his trousers) and ignored the unarmed person who by your own account was causing the disturbance?

I have since read where she has attacked someone with a hammer.

Irrelevant. You did not know it at the time and so it could not have influenced your assessment of the situation.

Aside from innuendo, character assassination and what appears to me to be an attempt to insert yourself into a current media event, I fail to see the relevance of your post.
