Well, it's official. I don't like Phoenix Arms anymore. I've had an HP22 for a few years, and it hasn't been shot very much. When I got it a few years ago, after about 1-2 mags thru it, the HAMMER SNAPPED OFF. :cuss:

It just popped off, and landed on the ground. The part that broke was the little hole that the pin goes thru, that mounts the hammer to the frame.

Anyway, when it broke, I returned it to the store, and they took care of everything.

The other day, I shot 20 rounds thru it, and it was fine.

Today, I shot about 3 rounds thru it, and the HAMMER BROKE. AGAIN. :cuss:

In the exact same place. I wasn't even surprised. The first time it happened completely caused me to lose all faith in this hunk of worthless metal.

So, does anyone know if there is any kind of warranty on these paperweights? I'm sure it would have expired by now, but this has been an ongoing problem.

Any info by anyone would be great. Another thing to add, is that these guns have the most worthless "safeties" on them. You cant take the mag out, if the safety is on. You cant rack the slide, if the mag is out, etc.

Since this gun is very simple, "someone" umm, has taken the liberty to remove these safeties, and make it function like a real gun. Did this completely void any warranty I could have hoped to have? :fire:

Thanks.

They have a lifetime warranty, but...

If someone has been modifying your's, you could be out of luck. Too bad you've had problems, I had one I used as a tacklebox gun for several years, shot 1000's of rounds thru and never had any problems with. Wish I hadn't gotten rid of it. They do have an abundance of safties tho' don't they.

Hmm... I guess I'll just call them, and let them know what happened.

This gun has not even had 50 rounds thru it. It's kinda fun to shoot when it works, but it's definitely been more of a headache than anything else.

Thanks.

Mine broke about 7 years ago after 90 rounds. I just found it again and wanted to shoot it. I tried calling the number listed in the manual and it came up with someone's home (at least an answering machine).

Does anyone have their number? Are they still in business?

1000s thru mine..... I love it.

call em and let em know. They'll make it right.

IMO you got a lemon.

I've shot mine alot and I really like it. No problems, except it jammed a little when I first got it, I suspect that's why the original owner got rid of it. He claimed it was unfired, but when I got it, I could tell it had been.

Well, I called them today, and some lady picked up the phone. I explained how this has happened twice, and she accusingly asked what kind of ammo I was using. Like it was my fault. Did she think I was somehow cramming .22 mags into this gun?

Anyway, I told I've almost always used winchester standard jacketed blah blah etc.

She gave me the address and told me to send it in.

I guess I'll send it in, and have it all taken care of.

When I get it back, anyone want to buy it? It's the most reliable gun I've ever had!

My hammer snapped off after about 200 rounds fired. This was a few years back, I called them up and they sent me 2 hammers. Haven't had any problems since, but I"m not holding my breath.

I've always had extraction issues tho, made a new extractor and fixed that.

One day I really need to take a look at it and see if I can make some real hammers out of A2 or S7 or something. At least part of the problem is the terribly small wall thickness around the hammer pin hole :scrutiny:

Hey WinterMute, are they easy to replace?

That may be a better idea in my case, since that bastard "someone" has tinkered with it. (See previous post...) :scrutiny:

The hammer? If I remember it wasn't too terribly hard to do. Think I spent maybe 15 minutes on it. I'll take a look at it tonight and see if I can jog my memory about what I had to do. IIRC it's just a matter of taking the grips off and popping out the mainspring and hammer pin

Plinkerton,

Got a chance to look at it. As far as I can recall:

1. Take off both grips, wach out for teh disconnector on the right hand side, it may want to fall out, it can be pulled off it's pin and set aside.

2. Take a small nail or punch and remove the small (1/16) pin in the sear block I think you'd call it. It's right in fron t of teh hammer pivot pin. Mine is staked on the right, so it'll need to be removed from right to left.

3. Now here is where I'm not really sure. With the sear block removed, the hammer should be allowed to swing forward and the mainspring pulled out from it's tunnel.

4. With mainspring tension off, you can tap out the hammer pin, and replace the hammer.

I"ll grab some pins at work tonight and double check, but that should be how it goes, hope it helps.
