Hi all. I am a big revolver geek looking to finally add another classic, a 1911, to my growing collection. I've heard good things about S&W's 1911s being really good out-of-the-box/over-the-counter pistols, and am looking to get one.

Please help me whet my appetite by posting some photos of your Smith 1911s!

Thanks!

well, here's two of mine kepping my springer company (the top two are the smith's, obviously--a PD and an earlier SC)

damn frandy that's a nice looking pistol--you make my decision harder! I had been tempted to get a Colt Commander for my next 1911, but I have to order sight unseen and honestly I trust Smith way more these days as far as getting one that's not messed up when not being able to inspect a gun before buying. I have pondered a 5" steel blue too...argh...

These are some really nice looking guns, but here is what I have been told. A custom 1911 builder told me that a Springfield TRP is the best 1911 off the shelf. I know u wanted to look at S&W's but since your looking to get your first I thought this might help. Also if u want to see some really nice 1911's (EYE CANDY) check out randgfirearms.com

i'm going to GUESS that frandy's grips are Hakan Pek's? I know he does the stippling like that.

Where did you get those beautiful grips? I want some.

Nope, they're Altamont grips.

I think most of the S&W 1911's posted are the base models, and they would run about $700 - $800 new (forgive me if any were different models). A TRP will run about $500 more from what I've heard.

The best comparison for the S&W base model is the Springfield Loaded. I think you could almost flip a coin between the two and be very pleased with what you bought.
