It's not often I see a 640 in a gunstore case; not sure why-- there are usually plenty of Airweights of various types and even the occasional 60. Popped into a shop the next town over to pick up a box of Bear Creek bullets, and there it was! I'd been telling myself that the next time I saw one, I'd buy it, so I did. (I was looking for a 640 when I found the 36-3 I got a couple of weeks ago.)

I'm really impressed by the trigger, it's really smooth and measures out at 10.5 pounds, which is okay by me. Since I'm only going to shoot .38s out of it, I'll replace the oversized grip with some old-style Magnas and a BK adapter that the 36 is currently wearing.

Speaking of .38, since this is technically a .357, am I going to have to file the front sight down? Looks like the sight is pinned; maybe I could just swap in a lower one if necessary.

IMO the reason why you don't see many for sale, not many owners are willing to sell after shooting them! :D

I own one and I agree it's a great revolver...

Looks great, I'm not much of a "lock man" when it goes to "ol ess 'n dubya" revolvers, but that looks sharp.

I got lucky and found a special contract M640 from 1976 so no lock and special Rosewood grips. I wasn't crazy about the factory Mag-na-port but all the other good outweighed that one bad.

Niiiiice! I have a S&W grip that's similar, though with shallower finger cuts.
