Been readin' on the web and sounded like the stores were filling up again so I went to my favorite store, A&P in Hampton to see what was in. I was amazed, there were a lot of options. It does look like things are getting back to normal.

Anyway, was looking for an AR to scope for varmint/target duties. I really liked the S&W VTAC and the DPMS heavy barrel. After spending about 45 minutes waying my options, I went with the DPMS. I have heard mixed reviews of them but was willing to give them a try and it was $1000 less.

Turns out I like! I got a 1.25 in. 5 shot group when I was done sighting in. This gun is a sweet shooter but it does need one upgrade. It didnt come with a 2 stage trigger so I ordered an RRA NM 2stage trigger online and hopefully that will be an easy upgrade.

Oh yeah I better post a pic!

What you see:
1 DPMS 20in heavy fluted stainless barrel A15
2 set of High TSR rings
1 Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40

Congratulations on the new ar. i have the one with the 16in bull barrel and I really like it too. I do agree with needing a new trigger. Mine came heavy, gritty, with a lot of creep.

Congratulations on your new AR purchase. I have a similar DPMS model with a 20" HB and mines a real shooter. I replaced the factory trigger with a McCormick single stage trigger breaking at 21/2lbs(my choice). The changeover was an easy drop in and I can always convert back if necessary. With a little load developement, mine will shot into 5/8" groups at 100 yds shooting from a solid rest. HINT: Mine loves Varget and Sierra 55 gr bullets. :)

Congrats on you new AR-15. DPMS builds good rifles. Usually the only "bad" reports of DPMS rifles are those compairing them to mil spec Colt's etc. The rifles are very good quality accurate and reliable.

My heavy 20" bbl DPMS rifle will shoot 5 shot 3/4" at 100yrds with regularity using Federal Bulk pack ammo. I've gotten .3" groups using handloads but that is the best I've done .5" groups and handloads are the norm.

I did install a 2 stage RRA NM trigger. It has a target dot 6-18x44mm scope.

It has the 1-9" bbl and so far the best handload recepies have been hot BL-C2 with 50gr VMAX bullets. Haven't tried Sierra yet. Varget worked well but the groups started to tighten up just as I ran out of case volume with the Varget. Compressed loads opened right back up.

I have the 20" heavy barrel DPMS and have had good luck with H335 and Nosler 50gr BT's.
