For those with a detailed knowledge of Colt 1860s and modern repros I have a sort of picky question.
I have a Pietta 1860 that is about 15 years old, and a new one I just obtained. The "rebate" or "step" on the cylinder on the old one is pretty much a 90 degree step up from the plane of the cylinder, and has fairly sharp edges. The new one has a more "angled" step and is overall slightly smoother edged.
My question is, how did Colt originally make this? Was it like the old Pietta or the new? I guess this is a bit picky, but I am aware of certain differences between the originals and the repros... and was just curious about this particular detail. Thanks.

The originals had a 90 degree step. I have never seen an original with the fluted cylinder so can't help you there.

Thanks guys! And thanks Yankee John for a really clear picture -- it even showed another detail I was curious about in the original 1860's but didn't ask!
