I'm going on my first pig hunt in about a month and had a couple of questions:

1) I'm buying a New Remington 700 CDL 30-06 is it a good choice?

2) What scope would you install?

3) What other firearm(s) should I bring along? .357 Mag revolver?, 12 Gague?

A 30/06 would be a good choice. As for scopes, I'm partial to Leupolds. A Remington is fine but if I were shopping for a bolt action rifle in 30/06, I would probably get a Savage in stainless steel, with the Accutrigger and with a composite stock. If you really want to spend some money, get an M1 Garand with no scope; now that's firepower.

As far as what other gun you should take, it depends. If you're intending to take a back-up gun to carry with you, a handgun would be the obvious best choice and a 357 Mag. would be fine. I would probably take a 44 Mag. revolver but, if you're not used to dealing with handgun recoil, a 357 Mag. would be better to you.

A shotgun could also be your primary weapon. I'm not much of a shotgun fan due to the less precise accuracy than you'll get with a rifle but that's just me; there is nothing wrong with them.

Thank you Grumulkin.

I don't have a .44mag I'll put it on the list soI guedd my .357 will have to do.

I have an M1A but is's heave and I'm not sure I want to lug it around all day. The diference is 3-4 lbs between it and the Remington so I thught a pure hunting rifle would suffice. 7.5 lbs is alot less than th e10-12 lbd M1A.
