Pimping a Mini-14 with a Boyd's stock

I really like Boyd's Gunstocks. A Boyd's Pro Varmint rifle stock in Coyote Laminate turns this rather pedestrian Ruger Mini-14:

I only just got it and shot it just once, breaking in the barrel and not paying too much attention to accuracy. That's for the next outing.

Pretty hard to hurt a Mini-14, and the stock swaps out in about 55 seconds.

They're fun little carbines, but have a utilitarian appearance no matter what you do to them IMO. I like them best in blued form with the standard walnut stock, not trying to emulate the AR or anything else.

I like it! the proV is my favorite boyds design to date, and Its makes for a neat set up on the mini. I like the coyote laminate also.

I confess: the shock value is half the appeal. Much of the fun of going to the range is striking up conversations with fellow shooters about firearms and firearm modifications. These days ARs don't get so much as a second glance regardless of what's hanging off their rails. However, even a utilitarian rifle with a garish replacement stock will get a second glance and maybe a conversation to boot.

To each his own, but I think the first photo version looks better.
"Pimping" a Mini 14 is sorta like putting mag wheels on a Rambler...
(Some of the older guys might get that.)

It is definitely a game changer as far as looks go.

But seriously, I love my old Mini 14. It just oozes out fun & smiles every time I take it out.

Lots of folks are down on the Mini 14 accuracy.
But let's be honest, it wasn't intended to be a sniper rifle.

Funny story. My grandpa said no one needs a Ak or ar. Capable of holding 30+ rounds. While having a mini 14 in his closet. Think he only had 20 rounders. On topic that is a nice looking stock. Hope it shoots well.

My accuracy improved a bunch after cutting 8.5” off the bbl. Eliminate the whip! Lol

They changed the barrel and the gas system a few years back to fix that. The barrel's now tapered. I don't know what they did to the gas system. But I did make sure to look for a recent one with a tapered barrel. I got lucky and found the last new one in stock at Scheel's.

Very nice! That’s about as neat a Mini as I’ve ever seen.

I put a camo Ram Line stock on my SS Mini Ranch Rifle years ago. It doesn’t look anywhere near as cool as your Mini looks .

My only Boyd’s laminate stock is a walnut laminate I put on my Win Model 70 7mm RM. The factory synthetic stock had a stripped-out swivel stud and looked lousy.



I like that look so much I think I’m going to get one in that color combo soon for my Ruger American rimfire.
