Springfields are basically "pre-70s", meaning that every part would interchange with USGI parts (possibly with some fitting).
Oops, except the firing pin and the locking mainspring housing they recently eliminated. I think the firing pin remains the smaller 9 mm size. The mainspring housings had an internal lock and modified internals. The housing would still interchange. I understand they have started building pistols without the mainspring lock (except for CA) though all of mine are older.
Oh, and the sights are a little different than GI.
 
I bought an SA .38 Super that had a lot of the new bells and whistles for competition shooting. I took the fad stuff off and parkerized it and and it looks just right, like an original from 1918.
 
Don't discount the Remington R1 as a good value "GI" (3 Dot sights notwithstanding)...

Love those SA GIs too, but gave my stainless to #2 son.
