Anybody have a source for tactical accessories for a pardner pump? My Dad is getting one of these with the 18.5" barrel for a home defense gun, and I would like to get a pistol grip stock for it, or maybe some other accessories. Anybody have a source for these?

Edit: I've read that 870 accessories are interchangeable with the pardner pump. Can anyone confirm this?

The Pardner pump is an excellent shotgun. I believe it is better than the Remington 870 Express HD. The Pardner Pump has a metal trigger guard and is tapped for a scope mount. The Express has a plastic guard and is not tapped. The finish on the PP is better and more consistent from gun to gun.

It is a copy of the 870 Express. All of the 870 accessories will fit the NEF PP. 870 barrels will not fit and mag tube extensions will fit but they will be either to short or to long because of the barrel setup. If you drill out the mag tube dimples on the PP and only use the spring and follower it will hold 6 in the tube.

The PP is made in China under Marlin specs.

Probably don't want to hear this, but considered a used Mossberg instead? They'd run about the same price.

Considered it, but you don't find too many used ones with the 18.5" barrels on them in my experience. Most people that buy tactical mossbergs, just hang onto them. I have a friend who can get me the protector for dealer cost and I'll tip him. Under $200 for a NIB home defense weapon I don't think you can go wrong.

All of the 870 accessories will fit the NEF PP
Thanks, exactly what I needed to know. I think I'll get a pistol grip for the forend and butt.

For the same price range you can find used 870 police guns, they are wingmasters not the express models, and are probably the best pump you can get, and there are beacoup accessories for them.

Yeah, there are plenty of options. But this one makes the most sense. This is a weapon that there really is no reason at all to spend more money than necessary. It's not like he's going to be shooting this thing every weekend. He'll probably shoot it once and then it'll set in a closet for the rest of his life. I can get this for $150 + tax brand new. You don't see remington or mossberg tactical guns for this price used (if you can even find a used one).

ImARugerFan After you receive the PP and have a chance to try it out give us a short review and feedback on it. The PP Protector is a very good HD shotgun. It will hold up just as well as a 870 Express.

I have a Hawk 98 made by Norinco and imported by Hawk. The Pardner Pump is made by Norinco and imported by Hawk also, for Marlin. The one I have has been through a lot and I have put close to 1000 rounds through it with not a single FTF. Mine came with an excellent set of of ghost ring sights on it. It still looks good and it is still going strong.

I agree Wingmasters are the best of the best but I don't see you finding a use one for $150 or close to that.

I can give you a somewhat review.

I just purchased a PP Protector for 200.00. Very solid gun. Took it to the range and had no issues. Shot about 30 rounds through it, from 00 buck, some turkey thunder, and a few slugs. Didn't have one hiccup. Easy to take down for cleaning. No complaints what so ever. Very much pleased.

Deer Hunter- You said it!!!!
I bought a Rem870HD express for $215 used (had about one box of ammo through it) about a year and a half ago and could not be happier.

just in THR fashion, a man asked about accessories for his gun, and everyone jumps in and tells him that his gun stinks and that he should get something else........ most of which dont even own this particular firearm...

So where is that computer of yours made? Or your TV? Or your......

For the price, you can't beat a PP. I'll put mine up to anything of yours. And for the record, I love Chinese food.

Mmm, I'll keep my standard stock and my Mossberg, thanks. It don't look cool, but that don't matter if you actually have to use it.

I really got nothing against Chinese made stuff if it's solid. I have two chicom SKS rifles that are awesome reliable and were cheap, cheap. I have a Chinese made dual purpose motorcycle (street legal dirt bike) that is in its fourth trouble free year. And, I shop at Walmart. But, some of the Chicom stuff is junk, I'll admit. I had a couple of "2500 round life expectancy" Tokarevs for a short time. They were junky metal, soft, you could see the pinging on the slide after a thousand rounds. But, they were cheap. I generally steer clear of Chinese stuff unless I just wanna try it and the price is too low or I know it's quality (IE the Norinco SKSs).

But, Mossbergs ain't that expensive and they work and they're American made. Same for their "Maverick" line, and they aren't clones of anything and have good aftermarket support.

Marlin H&R NEF has excellent customer service. The Pardner Pump has excellent steel quality. The thing most find attractive about the PP is the fact that it is an excellent low cost copy of the Remington 870 Express and all of the many accessories for the 870 will fit it. Some keep saying why not buy a used 870 express. Why buy a used Express when you get a new PP for around $180 that is drilled and tapped for a scope mount, metal trigger guard, Marlin H&R's excellent customer service, nice stock and finish, holds 6 in the tube if you drill out the mag tube dimples. You won't get all of that with a new or used 870 Express.

Guns&Ammo did a review test on the Norinco 870 copy in it's July 2000 issue. They tested it with birdshot, Buckshot and slugs. They said: "It's got to rank as the best tactical shotgun deals to be had anywhere". Marlin has now made the Chinese imported 870 copy even better, put the NEF name on it and back it with their excellent customer service. It's a deal.

Max, it's been at least a decade since I cracked an issue of Guns&Ammo, but I'll wager the usual flagon of mead that the same issue featured a nice shiny full page, full color ad or ads by the maker of same.

That wasn't an article, Max. It was a written infomercial.

There's roughly 10 million REAL 870s around, many of which are for sale. My last 870 purchase was $178 out the door. A near new 1955 WM with 30" Goose barrel.

Superreverb picked up a very nice riot barreled WM in new condition a few months back for $225. He paid about that for the 28 gauge Express he'll gladden his twins' hearts with this Holiday Season.

Please explain again how getting a Third World ripoff of a classic American shotgun that costs about the same used as the ripoff does new constitutes a good deal.

I seem to have missed your logic the first time.....

Ok. You can find wingmasters at these prices. How often do you find them at those prices? I own 2 wingmasters. If my Dad felt like waiting around for a deal on a wingmaster he would have. He is not a gun collector. He doesn't care. There are no used home defense guns at any of my local gun shops. They aren't very common guns, and once people have them they tend to hold onto them. Did my explanation clear up how this is a good deal now? Because it is a good deal. :banghead:

And thank you to those of you who actually answered my initial question. I ordered a rear pistol grip for it the other day. Should be a nice touch.

Dave I explained it in my post please go back and read it again. You have clearly never owned a Pardner Pump or a Norinco 870 copy so you have no experience to go by. The write up in GUNS & AMMO was featured in the "Shooter Proof House Jury" review. The Norinco was imported by IAC at the time. They are a small time importer. They don't spend money on ads in magazines to sway magazine gun critic's opinions like Remington and many other big names do.

Here is another review done on both the Express and the Pardner Pump. If you don't agree with the results of both reviews do your on and post it here on THR. I would be very interested in reading it and I am sure many others would too. I have around 100 guns in my collection that include all makes and models: Norinco 870 copy & Ithaca 37 copy, Colt, Ruger, Remington, Bushmaster, H&R NEF Excel auto 5, Mossberg, Winchester, (AKs: WASR 10, Arsenal, Norinco), Taurus, Springfield, Marlin, Glock, HK, Savage, Benelli, SIG, CZ, Browning, S&W, Beretta...ect I have my favorites but as you can see I have no real Brand Loyalty.

Another Test Review done on the Pardner Pump if anyone cares to read it.

The Pardner Pump is a steal of a deal. A much better deal than a new Remington 870 Express HD.

Max, I'll stick to my 870s. They weren't made in a dictatorship, they weren't made from a stolen design and buying them supports no one responsible for the Tienamen Square massacre.

Have a nice day....

I believe it has more to do with brand loyalty. It is not so much where the gun is being made but that the 870 is being copied and being copied very well. I never hear the same Hoop La when someone talks about buying a Norinco AK47, SKS and the Colt 1878 coach gun. The Cowboy Action Shooters love the made in China 1878 coach gun.The patent for the 870 has expired so anyone is free to copy it. There is a whole list of guns that have been copied or ideas borrowed. I leave the politics up to the politicians who have more control over what comes into this country than I do. The one we have in office now is pro China imports.

Marlin has no problem giving their money to China and coping the 870.

Dave McCracken: A stolen design? Patent life was only 17 years when the 870 was patented by Remington. Anybody can make an 870 clone legally. That's how the patent system works. You can buy what you want, and maybe with good reason, but now you're just resorting to ranting about China in general instead of focusing on the guns themselves.

"Max, I'll stick to my 870s. They weren't made in a dictatorship, they weren't made from a stolen design and buying them supports no one responsible for the Tienamen Square massacre."

The guy makes it sound like he doesn't own ANYTHING made in China. You are a hipocrat sir.

Its just like how I see Wal-Mart. Why spend the $50-$1.00 less it costs on ammo at Wally world when just down the street I can pay an extra dollar or so at the local gun shop? Sure they are the same quality....But I would rather give them the business.

Nothing wrong with supporting your local gun shop. We all want the goods ones to stay in business. I don't believe it is because the Pardner Pump is made in China. The ones that say the PP is junk is the die hard Remington 870 fans. They can't stand the fact that China is copying the 870. I try to judge a gun on how well it is made and preforms in the field, not on where it's made. I think that the Marlin Pardner Pump is good thing. It will possibly help keep Remington on it's toes with their Express model which has had some quality control issues in the last few years. Not to mention their price increases.

I too have a Pardner Pump and have had no failure to function but only about 30 rounds through it so far.

Does anyone know if the Surefire forend light for the Remington 870 will fit this shotgun?
