Pistol reliability

IMHO, Any 9mm Glock. 17, 19, 26, 34 they are accurate reliable and practically indesructible.

A friend of mine said his Sig had developed pitting on the slide after daily carry use. Are the newer ones still having those problems?

I am sad to say my Glock 34 is not up to the task. The most reliable autoloader I own is a H&K P2000 which I gave to my sister!! She moved to a crime ridden neighborhood living by herself so I gave up my best gun for her. It was my most reliable gun. Never had a faliure of any kind. My Glock has had multipule FTF's. All my 1911's have been 100% with factory ammo but the capacity was the only reason why she has the H&K.

SIG. Just... Sig.
The tests military include (most of them) is a hit by another bullet (from I don't know what diatanceand what caliber), and I sure know any polymer pistol won't stand a chance.
I'm not saying polymer handguns are "not" good, just that they don't fit "military requirements".
A P226 or P229 is a perfect choice, period. ;)

EDIT:
"While the commoners like me own G17's, I can get virtually any part to improve that platform and install it myself."

It's a Sig.... you just buy it and it's "Perfection" right out of the box you don't have to "improve the platform".

Based on reputation I'd say the glock 17, although I haven't owned one so I'm not speaking from experience.

My M&P 9mm seems to be really reliable. I trust it fully.

beretta 92 any of them carried one of the compacts for quite a few years never a problem of any kind, when I had to give it back since we went to sig's i missed it so I got a 92FS INOX for personnel use just can't make it fail.

be safe
