Does anyone have info re: what has to be done (AND how to go about it) to legally put a VFG on a pistol ? (ie, such as a Mini Draco). Has anyone done it? How did it work out? .......Thanx.......

Yes, it has been done, and yes it is legal
just remember to submit your $200 NFA tax prior to and have your forms straight

Actually might only be $5, but still you are converting a pistol into a different class firearm when you do it.

You are making an NFA Title II "Any Other Weapon." You have to fill out a "Form 1" to make and register a Title II Regulated Firearm. The making tax is $200. (Though the transfer tax will only be $5 if you ever sell it.)

You'll need to get your chief LEO's sign-off and send in the appropriate fingerprints along with your completed form and check.

By the way, for exactly the same process and exactly the same money you could register that same gun as a "Short Barreled Rifle." That would give you the ability to add your VFG, and also to add a shoulder stock.

You don't have to add the stock, but you can, and for the same money, why not?

The only downside is that subsequent transfers would be taxed at $200 instead of $5.
