My first post here and I would like to say Hello,I have lurked for awhile and have found this a very informative and entertaining forum.

Now for the reason of this post,my son is due to return from the sandbox next week (marine,OOORAH!) and he wants to try and out shoot the ol man.I shoot pistol at stonewall but I want to whop him with the long guns too :p Any places close to Cleveland (prefer outdoor 100-300 yards)?

Welcome! I can't help you, since I'm from the other corner of the state.

As a reminer to those in NE Ohio, listing the address of the Plain Dealer in response to this thread will not be considered "The High Road." ;)

There is A&A Trap off of 422. IIRC, their rifle range goes out to 200 yds. Not sure what the hourly rate is now. Do have to warn, went I met up with a friend there, his car got pelted by shot from the trap range as we drove back to the rifle range.

Where I go to when I'm up there is the Grand River public range run by the ODNR near Farmington, about an hour west of Cleveland. $3/day or $24/yr. You get your pass from sporting goods stores, Walmart, or any other store that sells hunting licenses. Ranges are 25 yd, 50 yd, and 100 yd. Range officer on duty. Strict safety rules (which is A-OK by me).

Stonewall does allow rifle on select days, but, as you know, only goes out to 25 yd.

Hi,
I don't know of any outdoor ranges, but Sportsman's Advantage in Sheffield allows shooting anything up to .50 BMG.

Id like to say welcome aboard neighbor.

Or at least you were when I was growing up.

Im a misplaced Ohioan. Born and raised in Lorain.

I have been to Sportsman's Advantage in Sheffield with my brother before and it was a pretty nice place.

When your boy gets back from the sandbox, tell him thanks for his service from an Air Force guy.

This really, really tempts me to say something about my ex. Something like: From E. 200th St., it's about 300 meters. Just don't hit my old Lyman.
Damn, I miss that boat!:fire:

I usually go to A&A, its $8 an hour I think, not usually very busy when I'm there on weekends. No RO so you might end up having to deal with morons on the range. But, you can bring stuff to shoot at (phonebooks, printers, bowling balls etc) if you want.

FYI Stonewall wants $21 an hour for rifles when they allow it.

Thanks for the replies.Just FYI sportmans advantage is now closed and B+T in Lorain has bought the phone # and customer list.

A+A sounds like a good place,do you have any contact info or directions?I take it they are out by LaDue but I have never seen them while I was in the area.

What target supplies should I bring?Do they have target hangers or stands or do I bring my own? Thanks for any info.

Even though its a little further out, my brother shoots in a M1 Garand match somewhere in Fremont/Sandusky area.

Ft Something or other is the name of the army post.

I will get with him and find out where it is. But there's got to be something closer to you.

Man do I miss Ohio during the summer time.

A&A Shooting & Hunting
12006 Fenstermaker
Garrettsville, OH 44231
(440) 548-8753

Go out 422, past ladue it turns to normal highway, about oh 10 miles past the resevoir turn right onto fenstermaker. I don't think there's a sign with the road name, but there is a small sign that says "A&A" on it. Call first if you go out during the week. Weekend I think they close up shop around 5.

A&A just has tractor tires sitting at varying distances. Usually I just staple targets to the tires or you can bring a piece of cardboard/plywood to staple them onto. Don't forget to grab some fun stuff to shoot at like old stereo equipent, phone books, cinder blocks, etc. You can shoot anything except glass.
