If you have small hands then the XDM version is worth the extra cost x10. If you have average size hands or larger then maybe not.

I don't think the XD45 is better than the XDm45, but I'm not going to trade mine in just to get the "m" version.
If I had it to do over again, I'd probably pop the little extra for the XDm just to be able to shoot the same cast SWC bullets I reload for my 1911's.

Depends on your 'use'.
My son's XD Service is a really good reliable pistol that shoots accurately.
The XDMs I've shot do fit my hand better with the smaller grip inserts, and do get me back on target a little faster with the longer bbl, and do tighten my group at longer distances.
For SD, I'd be happy with the Service model. For fun, I'd get the M.

purchased trijicon tritium night sights last night as a result of all the feedback on this thread. I guess I've been very happy with my XDsc9mm, but I was starting to think I was missing out on something on the XDm. My take is that there is not enough of a difference between the two that it would be worth anything at all to trade in my XD for an XDm - the wadcutter point seems to be the single genuine beef with the XD, but I don't shoot them. I shoot FMJ for practice and carry hollow points for CCW.
I put a tritium sight on my SP101 myself and left some small tool marks - I will not make the same mistake with the XD. It will go to a gunsmith for the install. Personally, I find the trigger to be better on the XD than a Glock and it shoots reliably and accurately - especially for a 3" barrel.

Both models are good guns that run well and are capable of excellent accuracy.. go with what fits and feels right to you...
In comparison to the Glocks.. personally I prefer the XD's all for reasons previously listed.. fit, dependability, safety features and above all dependability/accuracy...

Better check out your gunsmith before letting him have a go at it-there are some real hacks out there, and with the degree of difficulty being what it is with XD sights...
If all he has is one of the cheaper universal sight pushers I think I'd keep walking-I've seen pix of more than a few XDs with marks left by gunsmiths, and Trijicon does not warrant their sights if installed with hammers/punches etc.
Your best/safest bet is probably sending the slide to XD-HS2000.com-Trijicon also installs, but I'm sure they're going to be higher.

Well today I had the best of two worlds. I took both my XD9 and my SR9C to the range. You couldn't ask for a better day. Both excellent guns.
I don't understand the appeal of "match barrel" on a service gun. I want a looser chamber for reliability. And I still haven't seen anything other than marketing to support the fact the barrel is, indeed, "match grade," or if that would even make a difference in this particular gun. I.e., the frame to slide lockup might be the cause of most of the inaccuracy to begin with. Stamp that on the barrel, and I expect Ransom Rest testing to show smaller groups. Where's the data?
On a fancy pants 1911 with a 3 lb trigger and a tight slide/frame fit, I might be more interested in this feature. And it wouldn't be for a carry/defensive gun.
The rest of the upgrades are fine, but rather minimal.

compare an xdm barrel with a glock, and you'll immediately see how much looser the chamber dimensions are on the glock. the barrel to slide fit is also tighter on the xdm's.
personally, i see those as undesirable features on a polymer combat pistol.

The title "Match" in the firearms world truly is nothing other than marketing, as there is no industry standard for what "Match" is.

I have a an XD-40 and I really like it. Its very accurate, fits my hand great, points great, and I shoot it extremely well. I don't see a need to spend the extra $150 for the XD-M, plus I like the looks of the old XD better.

Love my plain old bi-tone 4" XD40. Can't say I've ever had a malfunction in several thousand rounds of all type of ammo. Carried it all day in an MTAC. Great gun for me. YMMV.

I picked up one of the original XD9sc. It still has the original rust prone finish. I have had some powder thin rust on the slide serrations where some of the finish wore off from use. I've shot over 12k rounds through it without a malfunction. It's the first pistol I ever bought and the last I would get rid of.
I picked up a full size XDM 9 & 40. The finish is definitely better, but I prefer my worn XD trigger. I can't notice much difference in accuracy, but I've never shot from a bag to test it.

Yeah, my XDSC40 is pre-Melonite also, but my later XDSC9 has the newer finish.
I'd heard Springfield would refinish pre-Melonite guns fer free, but that may have been a limited 'thang, and you may have had to have rust on it (mine doesn't).
When I took my CHP class years ago, the first few shots were from a sandbag-I'd never shot a 40 before, and never a semi-auto with as short a barrel as my XDSC. First shot was a little low, but dead center AFA windage.
That's why over the years I've had to giggle just a little whenever I hear Match Grade Barrel or short barreled guns are not as accurate!

I have a XD45 and my buddy from work bought a XDm45 last year. I convinced him to buy while Springfield had the free mag offer.
I have only shot a few mags through his "M" model. In my OPINION the ergo's on the "M" are worth the extra cash.
Match barrel didn't help him or I at the range. (hype in my opinion)
I STILL have my (standard) XD45 and don't plan on selling.
I didn't JUST HAVE TO HAVE a "M" model.
Sometimes I wonder if I should buy another 9mm and if it should be a XDsc or a 3.8 :banghead:

I'm perfectly happy with my XD40 service model and see no reason to downgrade.
