do you think if every one had a gun on thier hip at that plant it would have stoped him from killing some one?

Gun free zones don't prevent crime, but the also do not increase it.

Yes to the first one. I highly doubt he can move between the place of the first shot and the place of the fourth shot in four seconds. That's got to be some quick shooting and running. I don't know the layout of a plastic factory, but for those who do, are everyone's heads usually in sight of one spot most of the time? (Or in this case, the 3 shot in the first room) If not, someone in the first room may easily have killed him before he moved to room #2.

Let's put it this way: gun free zones may or may not increase crime, but they certainly increase deaths. There is an argument, that at some point holds no water, for saying if he wants to commit the crime, he will whether it is a gun free zone or not. But it is sure going to be stopped quicker than VT if it is not a gun free zone and people are utilizing that right.

If only someone had taken his gd gun away from him. Possibly the girlfriend could have done it...or started a process to get have it happen.

There appears to be a fair amount of justification for it to have been done.

Some who knew plant gunman aren't surprised by shootings

DIXON, Ky. (AP) - Some of the people in his home town describe Wesley Higdon as a "good kid."

But others say he was a troublemaker -- and that they're not surprised to hear that he opened fire at a Kentucky plastics plant, killing himself and five others.

Police say Higdon shot his supervisor outside the plant in Henderson early Wednesday after an argument. They say he then went inside and shot and killed four others before turning the gun on himself.

A sixth shooting victim survived.

One woman from nearby Dixon who knew Higdon when he went to high school there says he was "kind of a loner" -- and that "if he hung out with people, they were nothing but trouble."

Police say the shooting occurred hours after an argument with his supervisor. They say he was so angered by it, that he called his girlfriend late Tuesday and told her that he wanted to kill his boss. The girlfriend didn't warn anyone.

The girlfriend now insists that Higdon had threatened to kill himself. But she says he had made such threats before, and that she didn't believe him.

and who is going to pay for that? You can't always pass on your price increases too your custmers. Funny thing about custmers, they get really mad when you raise prices

Aaaaand THAT'S the kind of thinking that leads to employees (rightly) grumbling that the "brass" cares much more about their profits than they do about their employees' lives/safety.

If the brass ignores their margins, people find themselves out of a job.

Choose wisely.

exactly...

Its also funny employess don't like a cut in wages...I pay my laborers almost 30% more then union scale and my skilled craftsmen about 25% more thne union scale.

Since I can't really raise prices with out seeing a loss in biz, would you want me to cut your wages to pay for it?

For the record 2 of my employees last year made more then I did.
