ive got an RCBS collet puller and need to pull some 9mm extreme 124gr I'm not 100% sure on cause the auto drum was acting kind of crazy the last time so want to be safe.

will the collet puller destroy plated 9mm? id rather not scrap 100 bullets.

I can't speak to the RCBS, the Hornady Collet puller won't, so I would think the RCBS wouldn't as well.

The RCBS collet will not harm the bullet when used properly. What powder and what issues are you having with the Auto Drum? If you need some help figuring it out, I have 10's of thousands of loads from two of them with zero issues.

I have a sneaky suspicion that one or 2 might not have been charged in a small batch cause i didn't disconnect the thing you post in your vids and also last time i used it it was throwing a little high so figured pull them and start over.

It will not hurt the bullet. The housing is plastic. Plastic < metal = metal wins!

I have the RCBS collett puller die, and the insert is metal not plastic. Maybe yours is a newer or older version of mine? I got mine about a year ago.

I find that if I am careful, I can reuse the plated bullets (I use Berry's most of the time although I do have some Xtreme as well). It is easy however to tighten the collet to tightly if you are not careful and ruin the bullet.

I have and have had several from various manufacturers (but not RCBS). I haven't seen one yet with anything metal on the inside of the tube. The collet itself is typically metal, but obviously that changes nothing.

This is how the RCBS die is setup with the metal collet:

Well here I am having a brain far today. I saw collet and somehow read kinetic - I know, nowhere near the same!:scrutiny::oops:

I do have both and my COLLET pullers are metal. I have pulled quite a few plated and jacketed bullets with them and I honestly can't tell the difference. I certainly have never damaged a bullet with one. The worst "damage" seems to be a slight ring occasionally and it's never caused any accuracy issues that I can tell.

In any event, my apologies for the confusion.:D

Any damage to the bullet will be from the "crimp" operation when they were loaded. Xtreme (like other plated bullets) are made with very soft lead so they are very easy to deform to a smaller diameter during the load/crimp phase. Pull a few and check the diameter as compared with unloaded version.

I just pulled 32 147 grain 9mm plated bullets using an RCBS bullet puller and had nothing other than minor cosmetic damage.
