http://theday.com/re.aspx?re=bea1bd9f-ac2f-4138-aeba-26d37b776e39 New London — Four sailors from the Naval Submarine Base in Groton were arrested Tuesday in connection with gunshots fired into a car on Willetts Avenue Monday night, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred outside a house at 31 Willetts Ave., where the sailors had been awaiting the return of a man who lives there with his girlfriend, Lola Harvey, the estranged wife of one of the men.

The sailors planned to shoot the boyfriend with an assault rifle, police said.

When the boyfriend didn't come home, the sailors shot seven rounds through Harvey's unoccupied car with a MAC 90 semi-automatic assault rifle — a 3-foot-long weapon with a scope and military-style ammunition that went through both sides of the vehicle, according to witnesses.

“I thought it was right under my window,” said a neighbor who lives a few houses away from the scene.

All four sailors, including Anthony Harvey, 20, of 65 Jackson Drive, were charged Tuesday with first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury, possession of an assault weapon and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Harvey, Lola Harvey's estranged husband, also was charged with criminal possession of a firearm. On Monday night, he had been charged with violation of a protective order and breach of peace.

Police said Harvey violated a court order that prevents him from seeing his estranged wife or entering her home. As part of the order, he is not allowed to carry any kind of weapon.

A few hours before the shots were fired, police said Harvey, a sonar submarine technician with the USS Virginia, came to his estranged wife's home with Jakori Dorhan, 24, of the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in Groton, and Phillip Johnson, 20, of 65 Jackson Drive, Groton. They got into a fistfight with Lola Harvey's boyfriend, according to police Capt. William Dittman.

A few hours later, Dittman said, the men came back, bringing Antwon Dickerson, 23, whose local address was unavailable, with them — along with the assault weapon. Dittman said they shot the gun from inside a vehicle. No one was injured.

Following Harvey's arrest Monday night, the police vice unit worked with Groton Town police Tuesday morning to locate the other three men at Navy housing.

All four men appeared Tuesday in New London Superior Court. Harvey and Johnson were held on $500,000 bonds. Dickerson, an E3 fire control technician seaman with the Naval Submarine Support Command, and Dorhan, an electronic technician seaman assigned to the submarine base, were held on $250,000 bonds.

“As we go through this process we'll decide on their status with the Navy,” Lt. Mark Jones, public affairs officer for Submarine Group 2, said. “Civil authorities certainly have the lead, and we will cooperate with them.”

He said he could not yet comment on whether the men would face a court-martial, as the Navy was still gathering information about the incident. He said the Navy was still in the process of verifying Johnson's role with the Navy.

The shooting is one of several that have occurred in the neighborhood over the last few months, and Jay Wheeler, who heads up the Willetts Avenue Neighborhood Association, said police have been working hard to rid the neighborhood of drug activity.

“They had a good team of officers there, taking care of the scene,” Wheeler said. “They seemed to be working appropriately and diligently.”

thanks for posting the entire link...cutting and pasting what is in the OP does not work.

MAC 90 semi-automatic assault rifle

Didn't know MAC ever made a model 90. Now a Mak 90, on the other hand..............

In 1994, Congress passed a bill banning assault weapons. That law was allowed to lapse in 2004. In the wake of the massacre at Virginia Tech, the debate on assault weapons has been rekindled.

Right, because the firearms Cho used were outlined in the '94 AWB.............OR NOT!

$@*$%ing media maroons:rolleyes:

Pretty soon there will be a law that makes it illegal to spam polls. Mark my words. The Internet Preservation Act of 2010 Cosponsors - the usual suspects.

Thats because you have to copy the target/url of the link, not the truncated text that is displayed in his post.

Right click on the link, and select 'copy link location', or if you're still using internet explorer for some reason, right click and select 'copy shortcut'.

If you click on a link here the website that you're about visit will not be sent information about where you've been.

For instance if I type http://www.google.com and you click it. Google would not know that you clicked it at THR. To them it's just a normal request for their site.

Now if they use referrer ID's then it can be tracked but only if it's in the web address.

For instance http://www.google.com/?RefID=ClientTHR
Then google will know that it most likely came from THR because their referrer ID was sent with the google page request.

THR probably doesn't have a reference ID at google! I might be wrong though. Even if they do. If the RefID isn't in the address then google wouldn't know!
OR something like that!

Hope this helps.
