I have a question in regards to selective service. I need some help. it's 4:15Pm here and thought some of you can fill me in.

I can't recall the sign up when I was 18yrs of age. It is one of the things that I honestly can not remember...

selective service site is down for a few hours.. So, I cannot give info that may be required to find out if I actually signed up or not. until around 7PM my time.

I need my selective service number for security requirements on the job I just been offered this afternoon around 2hours ago my time. I have to go tomorrow to fill out documents..

I really need this job. and I hope there are ways to get around this. I hope this does not give me rejection on the offer I was lucky to have been givin:(

I appreciate all info on the above that you have to offer. Will this suffer my background on application/Job offer?

Jade, Thanks for the reply anyways I appreciate it. I just pray that everything comes out ok.

Just hope if nothing comes up on the site,That this will not affect my job offer. I'm pulling my hair on this! I'm very restless on this matter. A simple thing like this Lost/forgot/can't recall if ever doing the sign up. I'm 31yrs old now btw. Wonder if they can waive this somehow or something.

I need a few cold beers. I really would have to find out tomorrow/when the site gets back up.

I remember having some selective service requirement when I got my job in LE. I signed up when I was 18, but had long since forgotten about the process... Don't recall ever checking into it myself, I thought that was handled during the background investigation. But, I'm not really sure!

(sorry, I guess that post didn't really help a lot, but I can at least relate to the fact that these things are forgotten between the time you are 18 and the rest of your life!).

Coloradokevin, I waited 2 months for FBI clearance. and I too would have thought that they would have looked into that as well. I have to go tomorrow to get more documents to read/sign. For even more security clearance, that they are asking for.

Thank You sweet jesus.... Just checked and I did it back in 2000. Man.... what a relief.. :neener: I'm a happy camper for now at least. still a lot more tests papers to fill..

**Thank you Mods for having this up for me, I really appreciate it**

Thanks also to the members that replied as well!

For my first clearance in a job I had after I got out of the navy, I had not reregistered with the draft.

I also had ten years military service with no service obligation remaining.

I simply put down "Completed full military obligation" in the space on the form meaning that I could not be drafted anymore. I got the job.

I got my selective service notification IN boot camp! My CC thought that was hilarious, then mashed me for a little while for being stupid in public.

I went to the Post Office on my 18th birthday and filled mine out. I even got my picture in my high school yearbook of me filling out the form. I had already been in the Army Reserves for almost a year and had been through Basic, went through AIT after I graduated.

I got mine SS notice while I was a 2LT on Active Duty in Baumholder Germany. IIRC, it was even addressed to 2LT "Scout26", 2nd Platoon, 8th MP Co. APO NY 09034.

One of several times I got to tell my commander that I had to go back to the states. The others were when I got my Jury Duty notice, which meant I would have missed a REFORGER (aka Operation "Be Cold in January") and then when I got my suitable for framing Discharge Certificate from the Army Reserves (for SGT Scout26). IIRC, it was also addressed to 1LT Scout26.

That was a fun one: "Hey boss, I got to go back to the states. The Army fired me." (as I show him the Discharge Certificate.)

My Commanders had no sense of humor.

I think you are also required to keep your current address on file with Selective Service up to a certain age, in addition to the initial registration.
