I got a little cash for Christmas and I was thinking of picking up a new handgun. I have been wanting a small pocket-carry piece and I figure this is a good chance to pick one up.

I have been eyeing the Kel-Tec P-11 or PF-9. Which is better suited to pocket carry? I hear good things about Kel-Tecs and they are fairly cheap, so that is why I am focused on these.

I want a 9mm if I go with a semi-auto, I have looked at .38 snubbies but I don't shoot revolvers very well.

Thanks for any info or recommendations you can provide.

I have both the P11 and the PF9. I like them both and I've pocket-carried both. But it's clearly more difficult to get the P11 into a pocket. I'd go with the PF9. My P11 has been relegated to around-the-house stowage.

I'd go with the lc9.

I pocket carry it often including right now at my monster in laws house who is strongly anti gun

*swyped from the evo so excuse any typos*

PF-9 great pocket or IWB pistol. P-11 to thick in the grip and has a terrible trigger. I have a Kahr CW-9. I'll keep KelTec for carry . Wife can have the kahr

i was thinking the pf-9 would be the better option, just wanted to get some experiences from actual users.

I've carried my PF-9 in a pocket, but it's big for jeans. Works in dress pants pretty good, but it pretty much rides full-time on the belt. For jeans or other deep-conceal pocket-carry needs, the P32 jumps in. In fact, the P32 goes pretty much anywhere the PF9 goes; it's not often one rides without the other. My intent was to carry both for a while after acquiring the newer P32 to get used to it, but I never got around to discontinuing the belt-carried gun, and probably won't except in those occasional deep-conceal situations.

CM9 is worth the extra money

The keltec isnt a gun that most people enjoy shooting.

Its functional

The CM9 is a great shooter, as well as being a great pocket pistol.

I love mine, and chose it over the keltec

range guns they are not! dependable carry guns they are. I have both p32 p11 I have many guns that I could carry but these are my preferred.

PF 9

I don't own any KT's, however I have friends who do and they all like them. They are inexpensive and function well. Having said that, I do own a Kahr CM9 and can say it is certainly worth a look due to it's excellent trigger. It is more expensive, but not by a great deal, and if it is easier to shoot well, isn't it worth a little extra money? My .02

PM-9

Nice photos Kenny.
I had no idea the Kahr had that much size advantage too. One thing I noticed in your photos that I forgot to mention were the sights. I find the Kahrs easier to pick up than the typical 3 dot.

I own a number of pocket guns

The easist to carry and most concealable is the Kahr P380. This gun is so small and light you actually can forget you are carrying, and it is accurate and reliable for such a small gun. The others I pocket carry are my Kahr PM9, Beretta Nano, and Walther PPS. The PM9 and Nano are almost identical in size and equally reliable guns after a 200 round break in period. The Nano works flawlessly with premium ammo, but does experience some FTE when using 115 grain range ammo, especially WWB. My PM9 has worked equally well, but does not like Remington Golden Saber ammunition consistently. The PPS will eat any ammo, but it is the heaviest of the three which makes pocket carry more difficult. Also, the PPS can only be pocket carried with the 6 round mag as both the 7 and 8 round mags increase the grip length beyond that suitable for pocket carry IMO. If I carry my PPS it is usually in a belt holster with the 8 round mag.

Thanks and I completely agree. The Kahr is just a better shooter as well. I also love the "dot the i" sights on the Kahr.

The PF9 is a good 9mm for pocket carry, better than the P11 because it is single stack. Just like you I was looking at both and went with the pf9 because it was the better of the 2.

Just be warned that its not the best pistol for range use (obviously). The trigger is good, but not great. Double-taps are hard or nearly impossible because of the long DA pull. It does not come with a polished feed ramp and many have issues with jamming - mine did. The mag is also another thing to watch out for. the single mag that mine came with was a source of jamming/FTF out of the box.

There are solutions to these issues; but frankly I don't keep guns that are unreliable out of the box.

I highly suggest getting a Taurus 709 or Ruger LC9 instead. I've owned/shot both and they are much better than the PF9 for about the same price. The sizes are also the same.

Good luck!

diamondback makes a new 9mm in a pocket size very similar to thier 380, price is a little more than the keltec but smaller, much cheaper than the kahr

I have a PM 9,that I like very much. The only thing that I don't like is the magazine on these guns! I try to carry ( 2 ) spare loaded magazines with any ccw. The magazines will not hold all the rounds loaded into it! Spare magazines always let 2or 3 rounds slip out into magazine holder. Anyone know a fix? Otherwise it is a fine ccw.

Get a mag pouch from remora

They hold the rounds in, and feel like a wallet in the back pocket

I am not sure why so many posters suggest other firearms that cost way more than what the OP asked about when the OP clearly stated his question?

The PF9 is better suited to pocket carry than the P11. I have had my PF9 for over 3 yrs now and feel very confident in its reliability and performance. I have never had to use it but I hear the CS at Kel Tek is top notch.

I think the reason is because there are much better options in pocket 9mm pistols and the op doesn't say he can't afford to spend a little more.
