Wellston police scuffle; guns drawn

Wellston — A brawl between the newly chosen city police chief and his ousted predecessor resulted in guns being drawn on Friday and the mayor requiring medical attention for trying to intercede, police said.

The new police chief was named about four days ago, said Pine Lawn Police Chief Rickey Collins, whose department is investigating at the request of the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney's office.

The two men began pushing and shoving each other about 3 p.m in a meeting room inside Wellston's City Hall. Collins said he did not know what they argued about, though he said the former police chief recently had been demoted to assistant chief.

Guns were pulled during the scuffle, but no shots were fired, Collins said. He said police were investigating who pulled the guns. Wellston police would not identify the new police chief, and Collins did not know his name. The other officer is not being identified because he hasn't been charged.

Only in Saint Louis, people. ;)

Sorta like Super Troopers, except in that movie the cops never pulled guns on each other. This is pretty serious. I'm thinking they'll be ousting both and going for option C.

Actually I'll bet it was quite safe. They are obviously of the "Barnie Fife" police force, aren't they? :banghead:

You remember, only issued one bullet and they don't get to load it until they need it. :D

I can totally understand why anti-gunners don't want firearms in our hands now. Afterall, the police are the only people professional enough to have weapons. When citizens start carrying guns, they're going to be shootings everyday for road rage, minor arguments, and blood will be over flowing on the streets.

A lot of the small municipalities in St Louis County have really screwed up governments and police forces, especially north county. Wellston is one of the places that I avoid like the plague. By no means am I bashing police, it's just that there seems to be a lot of problems there.

guns inside city hall--- ohhh my gosh. but the police can have them; after all: they are the only ones who can be trusted.
can someone who is knowledgeable list the charges and consequences of two adults in a 'public area were to be arguing with guns drawn' would face?
and the charges against these two fine officers?? reassuring to know that some are more equal than others.
that aside; i am wondering about the the mayor who gets between 2 gun wielding men in the heat of disagreement.

this just in.....the mayors injuries are now being called accidental. seems he was wearing his aluminum invisibility cap when 2 offices, having an animated discussion, gesticulated through the space the mayor was occupying. all parties to the misfortunate incident are relieved that he will be ok now. especially as he was not before the event.

Whew! I was getting worried. It had been about 24 whole hours since you posted that exact same quote, and nothing else, in a thread.

As for the cops, I suspect at MOST one or both gets fired, but likely not even that. Just a letter of reprimand for both. Seems fair, as thats what would happen to any of us if we pulled guns during an argument at the mayor's office.:cuss:

Oh well. At least it's another "gun crime", "blood in the streets" stat for the Brady's, hey'll just leave out the fact it was the police cheif and assistant chief.:banghead:

My guess is this kind of thing happens a lot more than you ever hear about.

Cops are human, even police chiefs, and they get mad and have personal squabbles. Many minor power minds like this have very large egos and not such big brains. getting demoted is not likely to make one real pleasant, especially if you have gotten used to whatever perks there are.

Next person to say Shenanigans is getting pistol-whipped!

Hey Farva, what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy stuff on the wall and the mozzarella sticks?

ETA:
Hey FCFC what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy crap on the walls?

Awww... jerkface11 beat me to it.

I don't think we can assume that he got into the path of the potential gun fire.
From the linked article:
The mayor, Frank McNeil, tried to break up the fight but became overexerted due to a heart condition, Collins said. An ambulance arrived and he was treated at the scene.

A guys' been named the city's new police chief, had the job 4 days and they won't announce publicly who the guy is???

Nor will they name the former chief?

What've they got there, secret policemen?

Are all you eeeeevil cop bashers implying that the cops are held to a lower standard of accountability?

What's on topic here? The fact that guns were involved? How many times do we have to remind the membership that THR is not the daily birdcage liner. Just because a story contains firearms, doesn't make it on topic.
