Anyone ever get a used Police trade in Sig? What should be looked for as far as condition? Anything that should be replaced if you buy one? Found some 226's at a good price.

From what I've heard police trade in guns are carried often and rarely shot. It should be just like any other used Sig in regards to what to look at and what to replace. If you found a good price on one, I would definitely pick it up.

Things you may want to look at replacing are mag springs, recoil springs and possibly the roll pins (if you have a folded slide version). The roll pins are definitely optional as they have a service life of 5,000 rounds, but you may want to just keep in mind that they should be changed eventually. Roll pins are armorer level maintenance as well, so it's not something you can quickly/easily change out.

No problems from the 4 I've bought. My latest P225 has performed admirably.

About 50% of my handguns are either military surplus or police trade-ins. One of those is a SIG P6.

I haven't had to replace anything on the SIG nor any of the others. For the most part, as Telekinesis mentions - cops don't really shoot their guns that much. Expect holster wear. If that bothers you then look elsewhere or plan on a refinish. Other than that - most are mechanically superb.

Our department used to have a policy that you could carry whatever was on the approved list. After Hurricane Ivan, we loaned a lot of personnel to Galveston and Houston. A few months later, they remembered us when they were parting with their sig pro's. (Since then, they lobbied for a standard arm and went to glocks for all. I left before then, but the idea was ammunition compatibility. Guess what caliber they selected... Short and weak.)
Like someone else mentioned, PO weapons are carried often and rarely shot. Our 'quartermaster' sent them in to GT Distributors, who then were supposed to clean them and take care of the paperwork. 'Somehow' they all got turned into AR credit, so I missed out on a $250 Sig Pro 22xx series pistol. Check their site, they do a lot of trade-ins for Texas Peace Officers.
The one thing I can add is the condition depends on the officer who used it. I've seen a lot of PO's who never cared for their weapons beyond a monthly inspection. When it came to qualifications, there was so much gunk that the firing pin seized in place. CLICK! Nothing. (That was in a Lieutenant's holster, too. Scary!)
