Polishing a Colt 1911 with Bright SS/Chrome Finish

So i just purchased a Colt series 80, with the real shiny Bright SS finish, that realy looks chrome, Got a good deal on it on G/B, Beautiful gun the finish is about 90% i'd say, unfortunatly dont have any pics yet, ...But anyways was wandering what wold be the best and safest way to rmove the light scratches and light blemishes it has ,again i know it's hard to evaluate w/o a pic, but these are very light and cant be seen from a distance, any ideas would be appreciated, by the way i have picked me up a bottle of Mothers Chrome Wheel polish, to tri in step 1.
