Hi there!

This might be better in the legal forum; if any mods think so and choose to put it there, my gratitude in advance. But it's far enough afield I'm not starting it there :)

I'm looking for links to editorial cartoons related to the Heller outcome; has anyone noticed any?

Partly I'd like to gather these because I like (good) political cartoons generally, partly for the same reason I'm glad people kept track of claims that "blood would run in the streets" as a result of, say, the lifting of the so-called Assault Weapons Ban.

Cheers,

timothy

Not many positive ones to be found uh?

Well, I suppose it's positive that the cartoons are so weak and contrived -- they are none of them so far anything like award winners. They don't have the universal appeal of a great political cartoon, the kind that even people who disagree grasp instantly and are swayed by to at least some greater understanding.

So far, they're lame, hackneyed, cliches that feel put together from a ragged playbook of visual metaphors, rather than heartfelt and affecting.

If you go to page six on the Cagle site linked to above, there is a very pro-2a cartoon one up from the bottom, and another one on page seven.

From another thread comes this beauty from Miami:

http://www.miamiherald.com/jim_morin...ia/584449.html

I saw that in the paper.

Yep. That too.

The Miami Herald routinely bashes everything gun. They are as anti as they come. They even have two opinion article writers (Fred Grimm and Anna Menendez) who seem to dedicate a seemingly large percentage of their articles to anti-gun related topics.

I find it hilarious that Morin implies that the SCOTUS majority are "activist judges", by simply stating the obvious truth.

Who cares? They lose, we win (at least for now).

The scary thing is that we didn't really win big .... we got a very small victory with some  scary wording  in the opinion for us.

Yet the antis are still: :banghead: :uhoh:

The cartoon of them running the 2A through the shredder just boggles my mind.

The idea that this ruling somehow "destroys" the Second Amendment by acknowledging more individual freedom is lunacy to me.

Well, that one is implying that gun owners and 2a supporters are nuts ..... that's why the guy in the NRA hat with the open carry T shirt is being carried by a bunch of squirrels to be stored with the other nuts. Not exactly a positive image, pro-2a sentiment really. :scrutiny:

I like Nate Beeler's viewpoint better:

The point was that the dissenters' opinion would destroy the Bill of Rights, so Scalia (& the majority) had to stop them. I had to look at it a few times, too, but it's pro-2A.

Spinner,

I think we were looking at different cartoons - I was not referring to the "nuts" cartoon. I was pointing out the Nate Beeler cartoon posted above, and the Minuteman cartoon on the following page - the one that says "You have to give it back to him."
