invented by M. Kalashnikov (met him once years ago at a show), the AK is 60 years old today.

why do I (we?) love AK-47s? (yes i still love my AR15s)

A: theyre extremely simple
B: extremely reliable
C: cheap
D: effective
E: prolific
F: the most loved assault weapon on earth
G: left-wing anti-gun loons hate them.

H: ditto to G: again.

I actually have found them to always be junk (both the real and the semi-auto clones). General Kalashnikov and the Red Army made bad decisions on what states they were sold to as well. (I have met him also, nice guy, but he is very much an old Soviet - I do however respect veterans of all countries from World War II)

BTW - refrain from use of the term 'assault weapon' - thats like using the term 'Saturday Night Special'. It's an anti only term that means absolutely nothing and has no precise definition.

I love AK's. I have three Arsenal AK clones and they are among my favorite guns. Bulgarians make great AK's probably second only to the Russians. You also have to put in that family guns like the Galil which is basically a slightly modified AK in 5.56.

I like AR's also but notice that some manufactures like Bushmaster are building AR's with gas pistons to try to match the reliability of AK's.

Yes, but they will never have the "chic" that only a true AK-47 can capture.

Very true. Also nothing pisses off an anti like an AK-47, even a lo-cap WASR. That in itself is priceless.
