I've loaded thousands of rounds on my 650 without a powder-check and never had any problems. Same for my Dillon SDB with over a hundred thousand rounds (although it has no position for a powder-check that I know of).
I use them whenever I can, they are for the most part are redundant. Like eating good and going to the doctor or wiping your butt and taking a shower. Not needed to live but it does no harm to do both, never causes any damage and may just catch something you missed.
The safety powder checker found a case (.223) that had some sort of a stick stuck in it. The case was sized/decaped, trimmed and primed. loading on my 650 one round kept getting rejected. I would dump the powder and throw it back in the case feeder. After about three or four rejects, I banged the case on the bench and out came part of the stick which was split in half. I don't know if this would have caused any damage or not but I'm glad I had it.
