Poll: Man w/ No Name revolver: SAA or 1851 Conversion?

No, that is a Richards-Mason conversion. I'm saying that the Man With No Name "conversion", isn't a conversion. It's an 1871-1872 Open Top cartridge frame, made to look like an 1851 blacksmith conversion without ejector.

The Uberti 1851 Richards-Mason cartridge conversion is a pretty faithful reproduction of the original.

They did the same thing with the Taylor 1860 long cylinder conversion. Made to replicate cartridge conversions done by gunsmiths other than Colt. John Gren used to build these. The Uberti version is also built on the Open Top cartridge frame.

Everyone and their uncle has the SAA these days, I think the 1851 Navy conversion would be cool and a bit more unique.

I have the cap and ball version, it's a fine piece of steel.

Craig, your 72 on the far right is still my all time favorite cartridge gun. That thing is a masterpiece.

Thanks guys! It's one of my favorite guns. One of those situations where everything just turned out perfect.

On that note, I do not at all think it's a bad thing that Uberti built these guns on the Open Top frame. In fact, I think the Open Top model is the most refined and usable of the topless Colt's. Only thing I'd change, from a practical standpoint, is to put the rear sight back on the hammer for a little more radius.

The 51 in .38 would be my choice. Every Hollywood pistolero carries a civilian barreled SAA in .45 Colt. You could always fit the grips for both.

This “snubbie” has become my favorite. Caliber .44. It has the best SA trigger of any gun that I own., 04E00EE0-D9A2-4631-BA15-2BC0A8E0ABE4.jpeg
